One of the standout announcements during Nintendo’s June 2026 Direct presentation was the reveal of a new remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo confirmed that the project is currently in development and is planned for release during 2026.

The reveal was accompanied by a debut trailer that offered the first glimpse of the updated version of the classic adventure.

This marks the second full remake of Ocarina of Time since the game’s original launch.

Ocarina of Time originally debuted worldwide on the Nintendo 64 in 1998 and is widely regarded as one of the most influential action role-playing games ever released.

The title later received a GameCube release that also introduced the Master Quest version, offering altered dungeon layouts and increased challenge for returning players.

In 2011, the game was remade for Nintendo 3DS with updated visuals and additional enhancements tailored to the handheld platform.

Beyond video games, the story also inspired a manga adaptation that retold the events of Link’s adventure in a different format.

The story of Ocarina of Time follows Link as he embarks on a journey that spans different points in time, a gameplay concept that became one of the title’s defining features.

At the beginning of the adventure, Link and his fairy companion Navi leave Kokiri Forest at the request of the Great Deku Tree and travel to Hyrule Castle.

There, Princess Zelda entrusts Link with helping prevent Ganondorf from obtaining the Triforce and carrying out his ambitions.

Footage shown during the presentation provided a brief look at the game’s visual direction, including an early glimpse of Link’s redesigned appearance at the start of the story.
