Four Classic Gundam X Gunpla Kits to Get Global Re-Release
Bandai has opened pre-orders for re-releases of four classic 1/100 scale Gunpla model kits based on After War Gundam X.
This announcement brings renewed attention to the popular 1996 anime series as its 30th anniversary approaches.
After War Gundam X is set in a post-apocalyptic timeline where the Earth has been devastated by a catastrophic space colony drop, following the adventures of Garrod Ran and the crew of the Freeden.
The High Grade 1/100 scale line offers larger, more imposing display pieces compared to standard 1/144 kits, utilizing sturdy joints and detailed color separation to recreate the mechanical designs of the era.
Many of these classic model kits have become increasingly difficult to find over the years, leaving fans to rely on the aftermarket and its inflated prices to acquire them.
The first of the four kits getting a re-release is the “HG 1/100 Gundam Virsago”, the fearsome unit piloted by Shagia Frost, featuring its signature extending arms and Megasonic Gun.
A modern HG 1/144 kit of this particular mobile suit was recently announced, which is due to be released later this year.
The second kit is the “HG 1/100 Gundam Leopard D,” which allows builders to recreate the heavily armed fire support mobile suit upgraded for space combat operations.
The “HG 1/100 Gundam Airmaster Burst” brings back the highly mobile transforming unit boasting enhanced atmospheric flight capabilities.
Rounding out the wave is the massive “HG 1/100 G Falcon with Gundam Double X”, which pairs the powerful twin satellite cannon-equipped mobile suit with its heavy fighter support craft for combined display options.
The “HG 1/100 G Falcon with Gundam Double X” is priced at 4,070 yen (approx. $26 USD / £20 GBP), whilst the “HG 1/100 Gundam Virsago” will cost 2,530 yen (approx. $16 USD / £13 GBP).
The “HG 1/100 Gundam Leopard D” is priced at 2,200 yen (approx. $14 USD / £11 GBP), and finally the “HG 1/100 Gundam Airmaster Burst” will set builders back 2,200 yen (approx. $14 USD / £11 GBP).
Each kit will receive a standard worldwide retail release throughout Q4 2026 to give fans a chance to build these classic designs.
The initial pre-order window for these classic re-releases is now open through the Premium Bandai online store in Japan.
International pre-orders are expected to open shortly via independent hobby goods retailers, though they may vary depending on the retailer and region.
