Nintendo Announces the Return of Star Fox for the Switch 2

Nintendo has officially announced Star Fox, a cinematic reimagining of the classic Nintendo 64 title designed specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The brand new space combat adventure is slated to launch globally this coming June.

Star Fox provides a complete visual overhaul of the original experience while taking full advantage of the power and performance of the modern console hardware.

Players will embark on a dangerous mission to save the Lylat System from the maniacal scientist Andross.

Pilots can explore diverse environments ranging from the vibrant world of Corneria to the desolate, polluted oceans of Zoness.

Fox McCloud and his crew stand in the way of opposing forces, accompanied by newly overhauled character designs, detailed cutscenes featuring fully voiced dialogue, never-before-seen mission briefings, and a sweeping orchestral soundtrack.

Players hop into the high-performance Arwing aerospace fighter to perform thrilling aerial maneuvers, utilizing laser blasts alongside tactical moves like mid-air braking, Boost thrusts, somersaults, and classic barrel rolls to shake off incoming fire.

The main Campaign Mode takes players through asteroid fields and free-flying dogfights.

Pilots can choose between Easy or Normal difficulty at the start to hone their skills and earn the medals needed to unlock the Expert setting.

Completed objectives and defeated foes can alter the flight route, changing the stages encountered to ensure high replay value.

A separate Challenge Mode allows players to replay cleared stages to take on entirely new objectives unavailable in the standard campaign.

Multiplayer action arrives in the brand-new Battle Mode, pitting up to eight players against each other in four-versus-four dogfights between Team Star Fox and Team Star Wolf.

The competitive mode features three distinct stages, tasking crews with securing a designated control zone on Corneria, collecting energy crystals on Fichina, or retrieving stolen cargo from space pirates in Sector Y.

Pilots can join team battles online via private matches or global matchmaking.

Using the innovative GameShare feature, up to four players can take to the skies locally or online.

While online GameShare is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 systems, local GameShare supports sharing compatible games across both Nintendo Switch 2 and original Nintendo Switch hardware.

The title also incorporates unique hardware capabilities, allowing solo players to seamlessly swap between traditional button inputs and the new Joy-Con 2 mouse controls for more intuitive aiming.

A second player can join the cockpit locally or via online GameChat to split pilot and gunner duties for a co-op experience.

The GameChat integration includes interactive character avatars mirroring player expressions, alongside fun AR filters supplying virtual Star Fox ears or a Falco-inspired beak.
