Who is Maru? Everything we know about Jujutsu Kaisen sequel manga’s new alien protagonist

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo/Mojuro.
The first chapter of a new sequel series to the hit manga Jujutsu Kaisen has been released, and it introduces a brand-new protagonist to the franchise: an alien named Maru.
The new manga, titled Modulo, is an official spin-off with a story by the original creator, Gege Akutami, and features new artwork by the artist Yuji Iwasaki.

The new series is set 68 years after the conclusion of the “Culling Game” arc from the original manga.
The story sees Maru interact with a new generation of sorcerers, including Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of the fan-favorite characters Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zen’in, who are revealed to have passed away.

The new protagonist’s full name is Marulu Val Vol Yelvori, and he is a member of an extraterrestrial race known as the Simurian.
He is first seen traveling on a mothership, called a “Naunax,” which is carrying 50,000 other Simurian refugees who are seeking sanctuary.

It is revealed that the Simurians are also able to use Cursed Energy, and Maru is sent on a mission to Earth to determine if his people can peacefully coexist with humanity.

He goes undercover, posing as an inspector who is performing a routine inspection of Japan’s Jujutsu Sorcerers.

Maru is also shown to have a younger twin brother, with whom he currently does not get along.
During the chapter, he uses his Cursed Technique to help one of the other new characters, Yuka, locate her abducted brother.
He has a hidden, third eye, which he keeps covered with a bandage, but he blows his cover at the end of the chapter when he reveals it while intervening in a fight to protect Yuka.

The new series is planned to be a short-term serialization, running for approximately six months.
The first chapter of Modulo debuted in the 41st issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine and can be read online via the Shonen Jump app as of Sunday, the 7th of September, 2025.
