Village In The Shade to Receive International Release This Fall

Publisher NIS America has officially announced that the rural life simulation title Village in the Shade will receive a western release in the fall of 2026.

Developed by Nippon Ichi Software, the game is originally known in Japan as Hono Gurashi no Niwa and is scheduled to launch in that region on July 30, 2026.

The title will be available across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, the upcoming Switch 2, and PC via the Steam digital storefront.

Set in the mysterious Japanese mountain village of Kagatsu, the game combines traditional farming simulation mechanics with a hand-painted art style and an underlying sense of mystery.

Players will engage in typical countryside activities such as planting crops, customizing their homestead with crafted furniture, and attending seasonal events like summer festivals and cherry blossom viewings.

The gameplay experience is defined by a set of strict rules that hint at the village’s dark secrets: avoid talking to strangers, never leave the village boundaries, and stay indoors after dark.

For dedicated collectors, a limited edition is currently available for pre-order through the NIS America Online Store at a price point of $89.99.

This special physical edition contains a variety of premium items, including a collector’s box, a game-key card for the Switch 2 version, a hardcover art book, and a DigiPak original soundtrack.

Additional physical bonuses in the limited set include a peg-type acrylic stand, a collection of five enamel pins, and a themed sticker sheet to complement the game’s aesthetic.

By following the rules of Kagatsu, players can enjoy a peaceful life, or they can choose to uncover the unsettling truths hidden within the village at their own peril.
