Dark Outlaw Games Shut Down by Sony Interactive Entertainment

Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially closed Dark Outlaw Games, a development studio established in March 2025 and led by Call of Duty veteran Jason Blundell.

The closure marks the second time Blundell has seen a studio partnership with Sony end, following the shutdown of Deviation Games in March 2024.

Dark Outlaw Games was reportedly in the early stages of its debut project at the time of the announcement, and the exact number of employees affected by the studio’s shuttering remains unclear.

In addition to the studio closure, Sony is implementing broader workforce reductions across its mobile games development division, impacting approximately 50 staff members.

These cuts reflect a strategic shift by Sony to move away from the mobile gaming market while continuing to support previously announced projects such as MLB The Show Mobile and Ratchet and Clank: Ranger Rumble.

Prior to joining Sony in December 2023, Blundell was known for his significant contributions to the Call of Duty franchise and for co-founding Deviation Games, which had been developing an original property for PlayStation before its dissolution.
