“Wallace and Gromit” creators working on new Pokémon stop-motion animation feature
The Pokémon Company has announced a new partnership with the British studio Aardman Animations to produce a new stop-motion animated project based on the Pokémon franchise.
The new production is titled Pokémon Tales: The Adventure of Sirfetch’d and Pichu.
Aardman Animations is a world-renowned animation studio, celebrated for its painstaking and characterful stop-motion claymation technique.
The studio is responsible for creating some of the most critically acclaimed animated works of all time, including the Wallace and Gromit films and the popular Shaun the Sheep series.
This new collaboration will bring the characters of the Pokémon universe to life in Aardman’s signature, handcrafted style.
A special teaser video was released alongside the announcement.
The brief footage showcases the characters Sirfetch’d and a group of Pichu running amok around a placid Wooloo, all rendered with the expressive, tactile animation that is a hallmark of the studio’s work.
Sirfetch’d, a Fighting-type Pokémon from the Galar region, is known for its noble and knightly demeanor, wielding a massive leek as a sword and a shield.
It is joined in the new series by Pichu, the small Electric-type pre-evolution of the franchise mascot, Pikachu.
This project has similarities to another stop-motion Pokémon series, Pokémon Concierge, which recently revealed a new look at its upcoming second season.
The collaboration brings together one of Japan’s biggest cultural exports with one of the United Kingdom’s most respected and iconic animation houses.
The specific distribution method for the new project, such as whether it will be a film or a series, has not been revealed at this time.
Pokémon Tales: The Adventure of Sirfetch’d and Pichu is scheduled to be released in 2027.
