Seiko announces second Violet Evergarden watch collection

Seiko x Violet Evergarden

Renowned watchmaker Seiko has released two new mechanical watch models based on the popular anime series Violet Evergarden.

These limited edition timepieces, which are restricted to 2000 units per design, draw inspiration from pivotal moments in the anime, translating emotional scenes into their intricate designs.

Violet Evergarden is an acclaimed anime series known for its exquisite animation, emotional storytelling, and exploration of human emotions through the perspective of its protagonist, Violet, an Auto Memory Doll who writes letters for others.

Seiko, a global leader in horology, is celebrated for its precision and craftsmanship, making this collaboration a blend of artistic narrative and mechanical artistry.

The new collection features two different watches, each themed after a significant episode from the Violet Evergarden anime: Episode 5 and Episode 7.

Both designs aim to beautifully express the core emotional experiences of these episodes through detailed elements on the watch face and casing.

Let’s take a closer look at both designs!

Story:5 Model

This timepiece is inspired by Episode 5, where Violet ghostwrites “public love letters” for Princess Charlotte, who is marrying into a neighboring country. The design reflects Charlotte’s experience of youthful romance.

The watch dial mirrors the moonlit garden where Princess Charlotte and Prince Damian exchanged vows, featuring a crescent moon in the night sky symbolizing the blossoming love and the princess’s growth.

The second hand is crafted to resemble the love letters exchanged by the couple, evoking Prince Damian’s words, “I await you tonight in the moonlit garden.”

The second watch, Story:7, commemorates the episode where Violet assists Oscar, a famous playwright, grappling with profound grief and loneliness after losing his beloved daughter.

The dial captures the scene of Violet leaping across an autumn lake, with light shimmering on the water’s surface, using subtle gradients to create a sense of depth.

The second hand is designed in the likeness of the parasol Oscar entrusted to Violet, a poignant symbol representing Violet’s role in fulfilling his daughter Olivia’s “someday.”

These new timepieces are distinguished as mechanical watches, meaning their internal mechanisms are visible through an “open heart” window on the dial and a transparent case back.

This design choice, in collaboration with Seiko, is intended to evoke the mechanical nature of Violet’s prosthetic arm.

Collectors can observe the precise movements of the watch’s internal gears, connecting the timepiece to the anime’s themes of intricate machinery and human emotion.

The case back of each watch features an engraved design symbolic of its respective episode: white camellias and red roses for Story:5, and the swing set representing Oscar’s memories with his daughter Olivia for Story:7.

Each watch is delivered in a specially designed box resembling Violet’s iconic trunk, complete with interior artwork depicting memorable scenes from the corresponding episode.
