Seiko Reveals New Hangyodon Watch Inspired by Sanrio’s Lovable Fish-Man

Sanrio’s Hangyodon is getting his own limited-edition Seiko watch, with best friend Sayuri joining him across an ocean-inspired design created around the pair’s close friendship.
The “Hangyodon × Seiko Collaboration Watch” combines an emerald-green dial with gold accents, aquatic motifs and subtle character details in a compact stainless-steel timepiece.

Hangyodon made his Sanrio debut in 1985 and is portrayed as a lonely romantic who dreams of becoming a hero, although his attempts rarely go according to plan.

He is also known for his talent for making people laugh and his friendship with Sayuri, a cheerful octopus who regularly appears alongside him across Sanrio artwork and merchandise.

Hangyodon remains one of Sanrio’s most popular characters more than four decades after his debut, finishing ninth overall in the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking with 2,485,501 votes.

The new Seiko watch builds its design around Hangyodon’s connection to the sea, beginning with an emerald-green dial intended to evoke the mysterious colors of the ocean.

A gold seashell replaces the conventional hour marker at 12 o’clock, while a small Hangyodon motif is worked into the dial near the 4 o’clock position.

Hangyodon and Sayuri appear together toward the lower half of the watch face, holding hands as they look out from beneath the central hands.
The caseback features another illustration of the pair alongside an individually assigned edition number.

Stainless steel is used for the case, rear cover and bracelet, with curved Hardlex protecting the dial.
The case measures approximately 34.8 mm vertically, 29.1 mm across and 7.9 mm thick, while the metal bracelet can be adjusted to fit wrists measuring approximately 12 to 18 cm.

A Japanese quartz movement powers the watch with average accuracy of ±15 seconds per month, and the design also offers water resistance to 10 bar.
Each watch is supplied inside a dedicated house-shaped presentation box created specifically for the collaboration, with production limited to 2,000 individually numbered pieces worldwide.

Seiko has already worked with another major Sanrio character this year through the “Pompompurin × Seiko Collaboration Watch,” a similarly limited 2,000-piece release created to celebrate Pompompurin’s 30th anniversary.

Other recent collaborations have also kept Hangyodon prominent across Sanrio’s 2026 merchandise, including a RODEO CROWNS WIDE BOWL summer collection that placed him alongside Hello Kitty, Kuromi and Cinnamoroll in exclusive beach-themed artwork.

Hangyodon also appeared in the recent “GODZILLA × SANRIO CHARACTERS” collection, where he was paired with Godzilla’s 1995 design across figures, accessories and other merchandise.

Orders for the “Hangyodon × Seiko Collaboration Watch” are now open through the PREMICO online shop in Japan for ¥49,280 (approximately $312/£236), with shipping scheduled to begin from late December 2026.
