Sanrio releases new merch to celebrate official fan magazine’s 50th anniversary
Sanrio has released new merchandise to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its iconic fan magazine, Ichigo Shinbun (Strawberry Newspaper).
To commemorate this special occasion, Sanrio is launching the “Sanrio Characters Strawberry Newspaper 50th Acrylic Stand” collection, giving fans the chance to collect a piece of history.
2025 also marks the 50th anniversary of one of their most popular characters, My Melody, which has been commemorated with multiple brand collabs including a recently released accessory collection with popular brand Samantha Vega that also featured Kuromi, who is celebrating her 20th anniversary.
The Strawberry Newspaper has been a cornerstone of the Sanrio fan community for half a century, providing news, illustrations, and insights into the world of Sanrio characters since its inception.
This new merchandise collection pays homage to the magazine’s long history by featuring designs inspired by its covers and some of Sanrio’s most loveable characters.
The collection boasts 12 different designs, each celebrating a unique Strawberry Newspaper cover theme and featuring Sanrio characters including:
- Hangyodon
- Kero Kero Keroppi
- Badtz-Maru
- Pekkle
- Tuxedosam
- Pochacco
- My Melody
- Hello Kitty & Hello Mimmy
- Kuromi
- Cinnamoroll
- Pompompurin
- There will also be a 12th ‘secret’ design
Each acrylic stand is sold in a blind package, meaning the specific design received is a surprise, making an exciting experience for collectors.
The “Sanrio Characters Strawberry Newspaper 50th Acrylic Stand” collection officially launched on June 23rd, 2025 and is priced at 440 yen each.
These commemorative acrylic stands will be widely available across Japan at various retail locations, including convenience stores, supermarket candy sections, electronics retailer toy sections, hobby shops, model shops, and specialty stores.
