Release date confirmed for Final Fantasy IX 25th anniversary eyewear range

Japanese eyewear brand Zoff has announced the release date for its upcoming Final Fantasy IX inspired eyewear range.
The new “Zoff x FINAL FANTASY IX” collaboration is part of the ongoing celebration of the 25th anniversary of “Final Fantasy IX”.

“Final Fantasy IX”, released in 2000 for the PlayStation, is a beloved instalment in Square Enix’s globally acclaimed Final Fantasy series.
It diverged from its predecessors, “Final Fantasy VII” and “VIII”, by returning to a more traditional high-fantasy setting with a whimsical, storybook aesthetic.

The game follows the adventures of the charismatic thief Zidane Tribal, Princess Garnet Til Alexandros XVII (Dagger), the endearing black mage Vivi Ornitier, and a wide cast of characters as they become entangled in a grand struggle centered around the mysterious “crystal”.
With over 8.9 million copies sold worldwide, “Final Fantasy IX” continues to hold a special place in the hearts of many fans.

The “Zoff x FINAL FANTASY IX” collection will feature three different types of eyewear.
The specific designs and which characters they are inspired by are expected to be revealed on the same day that pre-orders open.
Each pair of collaboration glasses will come bundled with a limited edition glasses cleaning cloth and a specially designed case, making them appealing collectibles for fans.

Zoff, a popular Japanese eyewear retailer established in 2001, is known for its fashionable, durable, and affordable eyeglasses.
The brand frequently engages in collaborations with popular culture franchises, providing unique and stylish eyewear options for diverse tastes.
Previous collaborations this year have seen Zoff create eyewear collections inspired by Haikyuu!!, The Quintessential Quintuplets and Sanrio characters.

As with these previous collaborations, select Zoff stores will host fitting corners where customers can try on the new eyewear.
The fitting corners typically include standees of characters from the series.

For the Zoff x FINAL FANTASY IX collaboration, the participating stores with fitting corners will include:
- Zoff Grand Tokyo Shibuya
- Zoff Ikebukuro Sunshine City Alpa
- Zoff Yaechika
- Zoff Fukuoka Parco
- Zoff Grand Front Osaka
The in-store fitting period will run from July 7th to August 3rd.
Adding another layer of engagement, these select stores will also sell original capsule toys, which will contain trading glasses cloths featuring exclusive designs.

Fans interested in these capsule toys should note that they are limited in quantity and will be available only while supplies last. The start time for sales at each store will coincide with their respective opening hours.
The “Zoff | FINAL FANTASY IX” collaboration products will also be showcased at the “FINAL FANTASY IX 25th ANNIVERSARY at SQUARE ENIX POP UP STORE” events.

Fans in Osaka can view and try on the eyewear at the Daimaru Umeda Store’s 13th-floor special venue from July 7th to August 3rd, within the broader pop-up store event running from July 2nd to September 7th.
Similarly, in Tokyo, the products will be displayed at the Daimaru Tokyo Store’s 11th-floor event space from July 25th to August 3rd, as part of the pop-up event which concludes on August 11th.

This eyewear collaboration is one of several initiatives Square Enix has undertaken to commemorate the 25th anniversary of “Final Fantasy IX,” which officially falls on July 7th, 2025.
Other celebratory merchandise and events have been announced, ranging from new figures and music releases to in-game collaborations in other Square Enix titles, underscoring the enduring legacy and widespread affection that is still held for “Final Fantasy IX”.
Pre-orders for the “Final Fantasy IX” glasses are set to begin on Monday, July 7th, at 10:00 AM JST, and all three designs have now been revealed by Zoff.
