Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A gets day one paid DLC featuring two new Mega Raichu

A paid downloadable content expansion has been announced for the upcoming Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 title, Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A.
The new DLC was revealed during the Nintendo Direct presentation held on the 12th of September.

The new “Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A: Mega Dimension” DLC will feature an additional new story and new Pokémon for players to encounter.
In the new story, a “mysterious spatial distortion” will appear in Lumiose City, which will lead to an alternate dimension.

The key to this new story is the Mythical Pokémon, Hoopa.

The most significant new reveal is that the expansion will feature the first-ever Mega Evolutions for the classic Pokémon, Raichu.
Two different, new Mega Evolved forms of Raichu will be available in the game, “Mega Raichu X” and “Mega Raichu Y.”

This is a major and long-awaited development for fans of the first-generation Pokémon.

The release of the new DLC will be staggered.
Players who purchase the expansion will immediately receive a set of new, in-game avatar costumes, the “Holo Mode Set X & Y,” which will be available from the main game’s launch.

The additional story content and the new Pokémon will then be released as a later update in the winter.
This was just one of a number of major announcements made during the recent Nintendo Direct presentation.
A major double announcement was also made for the Super Mario franchise, with a new animated film, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” confirmed for an April 2026 release, and a new Nintendo Switch game, “Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2,” announced for an October 2nd release.

A brand-new Pokémon life simulation game, Pokémon Pokopia, was also revealed for a Spring 2026 release.

In one of the most surprising reveals, Nintendo’s infamous 1995 console, the Virtual Boy, is being revived for the Nintendo Switch Online service, and will require a new, replica headset peripheral.

Other announcements included a new, real-life “Talking Flower” from Super Mario Bros. Wonder and a set of interactive amiibo for the upcoming Kirby’s Air Rider.

The “Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A: Mega Dimension” DLC is scheduled to be released on the same day as the main game, on Thursday, the 16th of October, 2025.
