ONE PIECE FILM BAAD Revealed as Anime’s 30th Anniversary Movie

The reveal came at the end of ONE PIECE DAY ’26 at Makuhari Messe on August 23, marking one of the biggest movie announcements for the franchise since ONE PIECE FILM RED debuted in 2022.
BAAD is being planned around the television anime’s 30th anniversary on October 20, 2029, although its exact theatrical release date has not yet been announced.
For now, almost everything about the movie remains a mystery, with no story synopsis, featured characters or indication of where it will fit within the wider One Piece timeline.
Eiichiro Oda personally created the title artwork shown during the announcement, providing the first visual for a project that is still around three years away from reaching theaters.
ONE PIECE DAY ’26 actually delivered two major theatrical announcements, with ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY also confirmed for summer 2027 as part of the manga’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
The God Valley Incident is one of the most significant events in One Piece history, with Eiichiro Oda dramatically expanding what readers know about the legendary conflict through the manga over the past year.
Set decades before Luffy begins his voyage, God Valley places the infamous Rocks Pirates at the center of a confrontation involving a young Monkey D. Garp and Gol D. Roger that ultimately helped reshape the balance of power across the world.
Volume 114, released earlier in 2026, focused heavily on revealing what truly happened during the incident, making the timing of its upcoming theatrical adaptation especially relevant for readers who have recently experienced the expanded story.
Bandai Spirits has already begun producing figures based around characters connected with God Valley, while the movie will give fans the opportunity to experience the historic conflict in animated form when it reaches Japanese theaters next year.
Both upcoming films follow the huge success of ONE PIECE FILM RED, which eventually earned approximately ¥20.33 billion at the Japanese box office and attracted more than 14.7 million moviegoers across its original theatrical run and later encore screenings.
The movie announcements were only part of a packed ONE PIECE DAY ’26, which also revealed the final results of the second worldwide WORLD TOP 100 character popularity poll.
Monkey D. Luffy took first place with more than 2.3 million votes, followed by Roronoa Zoro in second and Sanji in third, with Nami and Trafalgar Law completing the top five.
The highest-ranking characters will receive additional attention beginning during the manga’s 30th anniversary year, including newly drawn outfits created by Oda for the top 30 that are planned for use across merchandise and other projects.
Netflix also brought news for its live-action adaptation, confirming Emilio Sakraya as Koza, Omid Abtahi as Toto, Jamie Ward as Pell and Nabil Khan as Chaka for the third season.
Season 3 will move the live-action story into the Alabasta storyline when it arrives in 2027, following the Straw Hat crew as they travel toward Vivi’s homeland and become caught up in the conspiracy threatening the kingdom.
The ONE PIECE Card Game received several announcements of its own, including new cards for ONE PIECE Heroines Edition vol.2 and additional information about the upcoming OP-18 booster centered around Water Seven and the Knights of God.
Bandai also revealed that OP-18 will include specially commissioned artwork from legendary Final Fantasy illustrator Yoshitaka Amano, while Nico Robin is among the characters receiving new high-rarity artwork across the upcoming releases.
WIT Studio’s THE ONE PIECE remake is another major animated project on the horizon, with new key artwork recently revealed ahead of its planned worldwide Netflix debut in February 2027.
ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY will arrive first in Japanese theaters during summer 2027, before ONE PIECE FILM BAAD follows sometime in 2029, with international theatrical dates yet to be confirmed for either movie.
