“New PANTY & STOCKING with GARTERBELT” is heading to Amazon Prime this July

The broadcast date and platforms for the new season of cult classic anime Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt have been confirmed alongside the release of another trailer.
It has also been confirmed that the anime will be available in both “censored” and “original” versions, catering to different viewing preferences and broadcast standards.

The first season of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt aired in 2010 and was produced by the acclaimed studio GAINAX and directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi.
It quickly gained a cult following for its unique blend of Western animation influences, crude humor, mature themes, and its distinctive art style.
The series follows the Anarchy sisters, Panty and Stocking, two foul-mouthed angels banished from Heaven, who fight ghosts in Daten City to earn enough Heaven Coins to return.

Its irreverent tone and stylistic choices made it a standout series when compared to other animes that aired around the same time.
This new series was first announced at Anime Expo in July 2022 where it was revealed that it would be overseen by Studio Trigger (founded by former GAINAX staff) while new and returning voice actors were confirmed alongside the release of a teaser trailer in December 2024.
The “censored” version of the new Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt anime will be available on several terrestrial and satellite channels, including Tokyo MX, BS NTV, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, Mie Television Broadcasting, TVQ Broadcasting Kyushu, Gifu Broadcasting, and TV Hokkaido.

The more explicit “original” version will air exclusively on AT-X, a Japanese anime-focused satellite channel known for airing uncensored content.
Streaming availability will begin with the series being added to Amazon Prime Video, with other streaming services to follow, and it has been noted that the version available will vary by platform.

Key creative personnel from the original series are returning to bring the new anime to life at Studio Trigger.
Hiroyuki Imaishi (known for Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill) is returning to direct.
Hiromi Wakabayashi is reprising his role in scriptwriting alongside Imaishi, and is also serving as a concept planner.
The new anime will feature a diverse line-up of musical artists, with returning composers ☆Taku Takahashi (m-flo) and Teddyloid, who were integral to the original’s distinctive soundtrack.

They will be joined by TAKU INOUE, 80KIDZ, KM, TAAR, MONJOE, Yackle, Mitsunori Ikeda, and Junji Chiba.
Kadokawa describes the new anime’s premise:
“In Daten City, a realm between heaven and hell, sinister spirits known as ‘Ghosts’ prowl the streets, feeding on human desires and resentment. Yet, in the darkest moments, two figures emerge to obliterate these vengeful beings with a divine light beyond human understanding. Their names? Panty & Stocking! These fallen angel sisters have been tasked with purging the darkness engulfing the earth. But who are they, really? Are they truly messengers of God… or agents of the Devil?”
Animators Sushio and Mai Yoneyama are also confirmed to be working on the new project.
Yoneyama, who made her debut as a key animator on the original series, is returning to the project. Sushio, who served as an animation director and key animator on the 2010 anime, will contribute as an animator.
Studio Trigger had previously hinted at Sushio’s desire to work on the new project at Anime Expo 2023, and his official confirmation will be welcome news to fans of the series.
The new footage confirms a July 9th, 2025, broadcast premiere date in Japan, following its world premiere event at Anime Expo 2025 on July 4th.
The “censored” version will premiere on terrestrial and satellite channels on July 9th while AT-X will premiere the “original” version on July 15th.
The series will become available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting from July 10th.
