Madoka Magica Unveils Magical New Official Smartwatch Collection

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is turning some of its most important magical items into functional watches through a new official collection featuring six character smartwatches and five Soul Gem-inspired ring watches.
Created by Japanese character lifestyle brand GARRACK, the lineup covers Madoka Kaname, Homura Akemi, Sayaka Miki, Kyoko Sakura, Mami Tomoe and Nagisa Momoe, with the smartwatches even reacting to changes in the wearer’s heart rate.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica originally aired in 2011, following Madoka after her encounter with Kyubey introduces her to magical girls and the increasingly disturbing consequences attached to their wishes and Soul Gems.

The franchise recently returned to theaters with Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgisnacht Rising, the first completely new theatrical continuation since 2013’s Rebellion and a direct continuation of the altered world created by Homura at the end of that movie.

GARRACK has become well known for their anime collaborations, with recent collections including interactive smartwatches based on SPY×FAMILY and Mushoku Tensei alongside premium mechanical watches inspired by franchises such as Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer and Ghost in the Shell.

The brand has also previously used traditional raden craftsmanship for an Evangelion mechanical watch collection, working with fourth-generation Takaoka lacquerware artisan Takeshi Musashigawa to create individually finished iridescent dials.

GARRACK’s new Madoka Magica collection brings those two sides of the brand together, combining interactive character smartwatches with a much more traditional series of miniature ring watches based on the magical girls’ Soul Gems.
Let’s take a closer look at everything in the collection!
- Madoka Kaname Smartwatch

The strap incorporates elements inspired by Madoka’s outfit, while the watch face changes her artwork into her magical girl form when the wearer’s heart rate reaches a certain level.

Incoming notifications cause Madoka’s Soul Gem to appear on screen, with an animated background continuing behind the character artwork.

- Homura Akemi Smartwatch

Homura receives her own costume-inspired strap and heart-rate-triggered magical girl transformation.

Her notification animation replaces the Soul Gem used by the other characters with Homura’s Dark Orb from Rebellion.

- Sayaka Miki Smartwatch

Sayaka’s version uses a strap based around her costume alongside a watch face that transforms her into her magical girl appearance as the wearer’s heart rate rises.

Her Soul Gem appears when notifications arrive, accompanied by the continuously moving background.

- Kyoko Sakura Smartwatch

Kyoko receives a character-themed strap and animated watch face that switches to her magical girl appearance as the wearer’s heart rate increases.

Notifications are represented by an on-screen Soul Gem animation.

- Mami Tomoe Smartwatch

Mami’s model combines a strap inspired by her familiar outfit with the same heart-rate-triggered transformation into her magical girl appearance.

Her Soul Gem appears when the watch receives a notification.

- Nagisa Momoe Smartwatch

Nagisa completes the six-watch lineup with her own costume-inspired strap and heart-rate-triggered character transformation.

Incoming notifications bring her Soul Gem onto the watch face alongside the animated background.

All six smartwatches weigh approximately 16 g without their straps and include an additional plain black replacement strap, allowing the character-specific designs to be swapped for something more understated.
They support both iOS and Android through the Huawei Health app and include everyday features such as heart-rate monitoring, sleep tracking, blood oxygen measurement, stress monitoring, activity tracking, workout recording, notifications, weather information, music controls and alarms.

GARRACK also includes rapid charging, with around five minutes of charging providing approximately two days of use and a full charge offering extended battery life depending on how heavily the watch is used.
Each smartwatch comes in its own character-themed presentation box, while early purchasers will also receive a matching changing card whose artwork shifts depending on the viewing angle while supplies last.

The second half of the collection takes a completely different approach by shrinking the magical girls’ Soul Gem rings into functional analog watches.
- Madoka Kaname Soul Gem Ring Watch

Recreates the ring form of Madoka’s Soul Gem as a miniature watch, with her name printed in Witch script on the reverse.
- Homura Akemi Soul Gem Ring Watch

Homura receives her own ring-watch design with character-specific detailing and her name rendered in Witch script on the back.
- Mami Tomoe Soul Gem Ring Watch

Mami’s Soul Gem ring is recreated as a miniature analog watch with her name hidden on the reverse in Witch script.
- Sayaka Miki Soul Gem Ring Watch

Sayaka’s version adapts the appearance of her Soul Gem ring into the same wearable watch format with her Witch-script name on the back.
- Kyoko Sakura Soul Gem Ring Watch

Kyoko completes the five-model range with another miniature watch based directly on her Soul Gem ring design.
Every ring watch uses traditional raden craftsmanship across its dial, with extremely thin pieces of iridescent shell cut and applied by hand to recreate the shifting shine of a Soul Gem.

The dials are created using techniques associated with Takaoka lacquerware in Toyama Prefecture, with fourth-generation artisan Takeshi Musashigawa and Musashigawa Kobo again working with GARRACK on the collection.

Star-shaped hour markers reference the series’ title motif, while patterns from the original Soul Gem rings continue across the stainless steel cases and expandable bands, allowing each watch to accommodate a range of finger sizes.

The finished watches use Japanese quartz movements, mineral glass and stainless steel construction, with each assembled in Japan and rated to 5 ATM water resistance.

The new watch collections follow several other recent collaborations that turn Madoka Magica’s magical items into real accessories, including a premium U-TREASURE jewelry collection that recreated the Soul Gems and Homura’s Dark Orb as necklaces and miniature precious-metal displays.

ANNA SUI has also recently incorporated Madoka’s Soul Gem and Homura’s Dark Orb into an official fashion collaboration, pairing necklaces based on the two objects with bags, wallets and other accessories inspired by Rebellion.
