Kyoto Animation Announces “Credits Roll Into The Sea” Anime Film Adaptation for 2027 Release

Flag Pictures has officially revealed that Kyoto Animation is producing a brand new anime film adaptation of the hit manga series “Credits Roll Into The Sea”.
The new theatrical feature is currently scheduled to premiere for audiences in 2027, with Shochiku handling the official distribution.
The upcoming project will be directed by acclaimed industry veteran Taichi Ishidate, who previously helmed the massive box-office hit Violet Evergarden.

Created by John Tarachine, the original manga follows the heartwarming story of a 65-year-old widow named Umiko who visits a movie theater for the first time in decades.

A chance encounter with a university film student named Kai leads Umiko to discover her own passion for cinema, prompting her to dive headfirst into the world of filmmaking.
A newly released super teaser trailer and promotional visual depict Umiko holding a camera on a beach at sunrise, capturing her deep dedication to the creative process:
Director Ishidate has stated that he wants to create a gentle work that allows viewers to truly feel the pride and preciousness of the effort put in by people who desperately face their creations.
Manga creator Tarachine expressed deep emotion over the announcement, noting how incredible it is to see Umiko finally projected onto the very same theatrical screens she admired.

The series has enjoyed immense success since its debut, topping the female reader rankings in the 2022 edition of the “Kono Manga ga Sugoi!” guidebook and exceeding 1.3 million copies in total circulation.
The overarching story will officially come to a close with the release of its ninth and final compiled volume on May 15, though Western readers can look forward to an English release from Dark Horse, with the first physical volume scheduled to launch on July 7.
