Kenshi Yonezu Wins Two Awards at TAAF 2026

The Tokyo Anime Award Festival officially honored musician Kenshi Yonezu with the Best Sound/Performance award in the Anime of the Year division during its multi-day event held from Friday, March 13, 2026, to Monday, March 16, 2026.
Judges for the festival evaluated various works that made their debut between the period of October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025.

The committee recognized Yonezu for his significant musical contributions to four specific anime projects over the past year.
These contributions include the song Plazma for the television series Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX and the track Bow and Arrow for the figure skating anime Medalist.

Yonezu was also celebrated for his work on the film Chainsaw Man: The Movie: Reze Arc, specifically for the songs Iris Out and Jane Doe.

The track Jane Doe is notable for being a creative collaboration with the prominent artist Hikaru Utada.
Beyond his recent wins, Yonezu has a long history of providing theme music for acclaimed titles such as Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron, My Hero Academia, and the original Chainsaw Man television series.

His extensive portfolio also features music for the video game Final Fantasy XVI as well as live-action films like Shin Ultraman and the adaptation of 5 Centimeters per Second.

The festival also announced category winners, with Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX taking the top prize for television animation.
In the animated film category, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle: Akaza Sairai secured the victory as the first installment of a planned trilogy.
