Harajuku’s new Harry Potter flagship store reveals location and opening date

Warner Bros. Discovery has announced the upcoming opening of a new official Harry Potter flagship store in Harajuku, set to debut this August.
Situated directly connected to Meiji-jingumae Station along Omotesando, this will be Japan’s first flagship location for the Wizarding World retail experience.
Additionally, the current “Harry Potter Mahou Dokoro Akasaka Wizarding World Street Store,” which closes on June 29th, will reopen as “Harry Potter Shop Akasaka” on July 17th.
Both stores will be officially managed by Warner Bros. Worldwide Studio Tour & Retail, the operator of Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo.

The Harry Potter franchise, based on J.K. Rowling’s books, has grown into a global cultural phenomenon, encompassing films, stage plays, video games, and expansive merchandise lines.
Its enduring popularity in Japan has been evident with the successful launch of Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo in June 2023.
These new retail ventures aim to further immerse fans in the world of witchcraft and wizardry.

The new Harajuku store will span approximately 900 square meters. Its location in Harajuku, a global hub for commerce, culture, fashion, and trends, is intended to make it a prominent destination.
The interior design of the store, situated along the historic green path leading from Yoyogi Park, will be inspired by the mystical “Forbidden Forest” from the Hogwarts grounds, known for its magical creatures.

The specific location in Harajuku was revealed today through the appearance of a familiar “Marauder’s Map” design on the building’s wall, confirming its address in the heart of the city where history, nature, and modern trends intersect.
Visitors can anticipate a magic-filled shopping experience upon stepping into this forest-inspired environment.
Akasaka has already become a special place for Harry Potter enthusiasts in Japan, having hosted a themed street and shop.

The relaunch of the official shop in Akasaka aims to continue fostering connections with fans and provide a place where they can feel closer to the magic of the Wizarding World.
These new locations in Akasaka and Harajuku follow the successful opening of the shop within Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo in June 2023, and the launch of the Japan-exclusive official online shop, “Harry Potter Shop Online Japan,” in July 2024.

Building on the success of directly managed Harry Potter stores in locations like King’s Cross Station in London, New York, Chicago, and within the Warner Bros. Studio Tours in London and Tokyo, these new Japanese stores will offer entertainment-rich products and services.
Harry Potter Shops are designed to create an engaging experience, with each location featuring photo opportunities, interactive displays, and interiors incorporating original movie props.
Warner Bros. Discovery recognizes the large and enthusiastic Harry Potter fanbase in Japan, including numerous international tourists.
By expanding retail presence to appealing locations like Harajuku and Akasaka, alongside the Studio Tour Tokyo, the company aims to offer more opportunities for fans to experience the Wizarding World.
The specific opening date will be announced in due course, alongside access details for fans looking to visit the store.
Due to the expected popularity, it’s highly likely that visitors will need to enter a lottery or apply for a timed slot to access the store to allow crowds to be managed effectively.
