Bandai Confirms Re-Release for 3 of Gundam’s Best Classic Premium Figures
Bandai has officially announced a re-release for three premium figures based on some of Mobile Suit Gundam’s most iconic classic mobile suits.
The original Mobile Suit Gundam follows Amuro Ray as he pilots the Earth Federation’s RX-78-2 Gundam against the Principality of Zeon, whose mobile suits include mass-produced Zaku II units and the customized red version piloted by his famous rival Char Aznable.
The three returning releases come from Bandai’s “ROBOT SPIRITS ver. A.N.I.M.E.” line and recreate the RX-78-2 Gundam, Char’s Zaku II, and standard mass-produced Zaku II as anime-accurate premium action figures.
The ROBOT SPIRITS ver. A.N.I.M.E. range focuses on reproducing the proportions and colors of the mobile suits as they appeared in animation, combining extensive articulation with weapons and effect parts designed around recognizable scenes from the original anime.
Originally released in 2016 during the early years of the ver. A.N.I.M.E. range, all three figures have been reissued on multiple occasions since, including twice during 2025.
Let’s take a look at each of the returning figures in more detail!
- ROBOT SPIRITS
RX-78-2 Gundam ver. A.N.I.M.E.
Amuro Ray’s RX-78-2 includes its Beam Rifle, shield, and Hyper Bazooka alongside Beam Saber, Vulcan and vernier effects, with extensive articulation across the head, chest, waist and limbs designed to recreate poses from the original series.
The Beam Rifle can be attached to the rear of the shield or mounted against the Gundam’s back, and the Hyper Bazooka can be stored around the waist when it isn’t being held.
- ROBOT SPIRITS
MS-06S Char’s Zaku II ver. A.N.I.M.E.
Char’s distinctive red Zaku II comes equipped with its Zaku Machine Gun, Zaku Bazooka and Heat Hawk, accompanied by firing effects for both guns, vernier effects and an explosion effect for recreating battle scenes.
Its articulated neck, elbows, knees, and front skirt are designed to support the unusually dynamic movements associated with Char’s customized mobile suit throughout the anime.
- ROBOT SPIRITS
MS-06 Mass-Produced Zaku ver. A.N.I.M.E.
The standard Zeon Zaku II receives the largest weapon selection of the three, including a Zaku Machine Gun, Zaku Bazooka, Heat Hawk, Magella Top Cannon, two crackers, and removable three-tube missile pods.
An interchangeable commander-type head is also included, allowing the mass-production model to represent either a standard unit or a machine assigned to a squad leader.
Each of the three returning figures stands approximately 12.5 cm tall and retains the original accessory selection included with its previous releases.
Bandai has continued to expand the ROBOT SPIRITS ver. A.N.I.M.E. lineup around other versions of the Zaku II, with one of the most recent being an MS-06J Wetland Type based on the jungle warfare variant from Mobile Suit Gundam MSV, complete with camouflage tampo printing and an extensive weapon loadout.
Char’s Zaku II has also appeared elsewhere in Bandai’s action figure lineup this year, with a separate GUNDAM UNIVERSE release using the newer Universal Reaction Frame to provide improved articulation.
The RX-78-2 has remained equally prominent across Bandai’s recent releases, including a new Entry Grade Gunpla kit featuring traditional Japanese ukiyo-e-inspired packaging and decals.

Image by Charlotte DavisPre-orders for all three returning ROBOT SPIRITS ver. A.N.I.M.E. figures are now open through general hobby goods retailers in Japan, with each priced at ¥6,600 (approximately $42 / £32) ahead of their release in April 2027.
For fans based outside of Japan, the three figures may soon reappear through platforms such as Premium Bandai US, which also offers a wide range of in-stock ROBOT SPIRITS ver. A.N.I.M.E. releases from series including Gundam Wing and Gundam SEED.
