Square Enix Announces Huge Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Orchestra World Tour for 2027

Square Enix has announced a huge new Final Fantasy orchestra world tour that will celebrate the RPG series’ 40th anniversary with performances across Japan, North America, Europe and Asia throughout 2027.
“FINAL FANTASY 40th Anniversary Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY – Eternal” will bring together music selected from across four decades of the franchise, performed by a full orchestra alongside footage from the games displayed across a large screen.

The original Final Fantasy was released for Nintendo’s Famicom in Japan on December 18, 1987, beginning a series that has since expanded across numerous numbered entries, sequels and spin-offs while continually introducing new worlds, characters and stories.

The upcoming tour will form one of the largest celebrations surrounding the franchise’s anniversary year, drawing its program from music created throughout that history rather than concentrating on a single Final Fantasy game.

Distant Worlds has been Final Fantasy’s flagship orchestral concert series since its first performance in Stockholm in 2007, combining live symphonic arrangements with visual sequences taken directly from the games.

The project has since grown into a genuinely global production, with more than 300 performances held across 94 cities and arrangements based on music by composers including Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Yoko Shimomura and Masayoshi Soken.

Grammy Award-winning conductor Arnie Roth will return for the anniversary project after leading Distant Worlds and numerous other Square Enix concert productions, including the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE Orchestra World Tour and NieR Concert re:12018.

The first 40th anniversary performances will take place at Tokyo International Forum Hall A on March 20 and 21, 2027, followed by two concerts at Grand Cube Osaka on March 27 and 28.

The international leg will then take Distant Worlds across North America before continuing through Europe and Asia, with Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Denver, Atlanta, Vancouver, New York City, Pittsburgh, Chicago, London, Singapore, Seoul and Portland among the cities currently included on the official 2027 tour calendar.
Paris has also been announced as one of the destinations planned for the wider world tour, with Square Enix confirming that additional locations and updated performance details will continue to be announced.

Several of the biggest venues on the schedule underline the scale of the anniversary production, including Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 25 and 26 and London’s Royal Albert Hall on September 25.
The Japanese performances will take place while Square Enix’s huge “Neverending Journeys FINAL FANTASY 40th Anniversary Exhibition” is still running at Tokyo National Museum, giving fans visiting Japan in March the opportunity to experience two of the franchise’s major anniversary projects during the same trip.

Final Fantasy music will already have a substantial live presence in Japan before Distant Worlds begins, as Square Enix is also holding a separate Final Fantasy X 25th Anniversary Piano Solo Concert tour across five Japanese cities in January 2027.

Square Enix has yet to reveal the complete setlist for the 40th anniversary Distant Worlds tour, with further details about the games and compositions included in each performance expected closer to its launch.

Applications for the first advance ticket lottery for the Japanese “FINAL FANTASY 40th Anniversary Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY – Eternal” performances will open through the Square Enix e-STORE from November 16 at 6:00 PM JST, with further ticket details to be announced later.
Tickets for the New York City, Pittsburgh, Chicago and London concerts will go on sale on October 6, followed by Los Angeles and Atlanta on October 9.
The 40th anniversary Distant Worlds world tour begins in Tokyo on March 20, 2027, with further performances and locations expected to continue being added as Final Fantasy approaches its official 40th birthday in December.
