Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle shatters Box Office records in Japan and North America

The new animated film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza’s Return, is continuing its record-breaking run at the box office.

New figures have been released, revealing the film’s massive success in both Japan and a number of international markets.

In Japan, after sixty days in theaters, the film has achieved a total attendance of over 23 million people.

Its domestic box office revenue has now surpassed ¥33 billion (approx. $225 million USD).

This makes it the second highest-grossing film of all time in Japanese history, surpassing the 2001 Studio Ghibli classic, Spirited Away.

The film has also set a new record as the fastest movie ever to reach ¥30 billion (approx. $204.9 million USD) at the Japanese box office, breaking the previous record held by the first Demon Slayer film, Mugen Train.

The movie has also been a huge success internationally.

Its total, worldwide box office revenue has now exceeded ¥68 billion (approx. $464.5 million USD), with a global attendance of over 55 million people.

In North America, where the film was released on the 12th of September, it had the largest opening weekend of all time for a Japanese animated film.

The film’s opening weekend in North America brought in a total of $70.6 million, breaking a 26-year-old record.

The first film in the planned Infinity Castle Arc trilogy, “Akaza’s Return,” adapts the beginning of the final, climactic battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the demons from the original manga by Koyoharu Gotouge.

The film was first released in Japan on the 18th of July, 2025.
