BLACK TORCH Anime Debuts on Crunchyroll This July

Crunchyroll has officially announced that the upcoming anime adaptation of Black Torch will begin streaming on its platform in July 2026.

The series is based on the original manga created by Tsuyoshi Takaki, which was serialized from December 2016 to July 2018.

The story follows Jiro Azuma, a young man with the ability to communicate with animals whose life changes after he merges with a mysterious stray cat.

This fusion grants Jiro immense power and entangles him in a secret war between humanity and supernatural Japanese spirits known as mononoke.

The animation is being produced at 100studio under the direction of Kei Umabiki, who previously worked on Quality Assurance in Another World.

Gigaemon Ichikawa is handling the scripts and series composition, while Go Suzuki is responsible for the character designs.

The musical score for the production is being composed by Yutaka Yamada, known for his work on Vinland Saga.

Crunchyroll will distribute the series across multiple global territories, including North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS.

VIZ Media currently handles the English language publication of the original five volume manga series.
