A Side Character’s Love Story Live-Action Main Trailer and Theme Song Released

The official website for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Akane Tamura’s manga A Side Character’s Love Story, known in Japan as Mobuko no Koi, has released its main trailer.
The film is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters on June 5, 2026.
The trailer introduces the film’s theme song titled Clover, which is performed by the Japanese artist Nishina.

Nishina is also recognized for providing the ending theme song Panda Girl for the Ranma 1/2 Season 2 television anime.
The artist noted that the new song was inspired by the use of the children’s song Rainbow in a specific scene within the film.

Hiroki Kazama, who previously directed the 2018 live-action drama adaptation of After the Rain, is directing the production.
The screenplay was written by Yasuko Kuramitsu, while Hidekazu Sakamoto is responsible for the film’s soundtrack.
Hiyori Sakurada stars as the protagonist Nobuko Tanaka, often referred to as Mobuko, and Taisei Kido plays her love interest, Hiroki Irie.

The supporting cast includes Ikoi Hayase Iko as Hina Abe, Erika Karata Erika as Sachi Shinozaki, Takuya Kusakawa Takuya as Yuya Kaneko, Towa Araki as Yo Ohno, and Kamji Furudate as Tomonori Orihara.
The original manga by Akane Tamura first appeared as a one-shot in Monthly Comic Zenon in November 2016 before its serialization from March 2017 to July 2018.

The series later moved to the Comic Tatan web platform in August 2018 and has since seen 24 collected volumes published in Japan.
Coamix has been publishing an English digital edition of the manga since February 2020.
The story follows Nobuko Tanaka, a woman in her 20s who has always felt like a background character but decides to courageously pursue her first romantic feelings.
