Universal Studios Japan reveals explosive new Super Mario popcorn bucket

Universal Studios Japan (USJ) is set to introduce a new and exciting collectible for Nintendo fans.
Visitors to the Super Nintendo World area will soon be able to purchase a “Bob-omb Popcorn Bucket”, a unique popcorn holder inspired by the iconic Bob-omb enemies from Nintendo’s Mario series.
Universal Studios Japan is known for its multiple themed areas, attractions, and food, as well as its highly sought-after merchandise, which often combines popular franchises with interactive elements.
Other recently introduced food offerings at the park include SPYxFAMILY churros and ONE PIECE burgers.

The Super Nintendo World area, which opened in 2021, has been a major draw, bringing the vibrant worlds of Super Mario and Donkey Kong to life with rides, character interactions, and themed dining.
Popcorn buckets, in particular, have become collectible items at theme parks worldwide, with USJ frequently releasing unique designs tied to popular characters and attractions.

The “Bob-omb Popcorn Bucket” is based on the Bob-omb, a recurring, bomb-like enemy character that has appeared in nearly every major Super Mario game since Super Mario 64, also featuring as offensive items in many Mario Kart games.

These animated bombs are known for their distinctive walking animation and their tendency to explode after a short fuse.
USJ has also stated that the popcorn bucket “comes with a function that recreates thrilling scenes from the games, making it appear as though the popcorn may explode.”

While specific details about this function are yet to be fully revealed, it suggests the popcorn bucket will have an interactive element, likely involving sound, light, or movement, designed to mimic the Bob-omb’s explosive nature.
The new popcorn bucket will be exclusively available at the “Pit Stop Popcorn” stand, located within USJ’s popular Super Nintendo World area.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed but other popcorn buckets sold at the “Pit Stop Popcorn” stand are priced between 5,000 yen and 5,500 yen (approx. $34-38 USD / £25-28 GBP), so it will be expected to cost somewhere within that range at a minimum.

USJ visitors will be able to purchase the “Bob-omb Popcorn Bucket at the “Pit Stop Popcorn” stand starting from June 23rd, 2025.
