Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity to receive a Nintendo Switch Port in 2025

The publisher Phoenixx and developer Ankake Spa have announced that a Nintendo Switch version of the fan-made action RPG, Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity, will be released.
The game is part of the massive Touhou Project universe, a series of “bullet hell” shooter games created by the independent developer ZUN of Team Shanghai Alice.

A unique aspect of the Touhou Project is its creator’s open encouragement of fan-made derivative works, which has led to a sprawling ecosystem of fan-created games, music, and art, with some of the most popular fan games receiving official console releases like this one.
Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity first launched for the PlayStation 4 in 2016 before being ported to PC via Steam in 2018.

The game is a top-down action RPG that diverges from the main series’ shooter gameplay.
It follows the infamous vampire Remilia Scarlet, who, growing bored of her centuries-long life, decides to seek adventure after hearing reports of a giant monster roaming nearby.

Players can choose to play as one of two characters, each with a different combat style.

They can select either the powerful vampire Remilia Scarlet, who focuses on hard-hitting attacks, or her devoted and time-manipulating maid, Sakuya Izayoi, who offers a more technical fighting style.

The gameplay features a simple five-button control scheme, where players can assign a variety of skills that they learn as they level up.

A combo system rewards players for hitting enemies in rapid succession, increasing their attack power and the amount of experience gained.

The game also includes a loot system with randomized stats on equipment, encouraging players to hunt for better gear to create powerful character builds.

The soundtrack features 35 rearranged musical tracks from previous Touhou titles, created by the acclaimed doujin music circle, Hachimitsu-Lemon.

The Nintendo Switch version of Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity is scheduled for release sometime in 2025, with more details set to be announced in the near future.

The news of this addition to the Nintendo Switch catalog comes shortly after the FBI seized a web domain that had been facilitating the illegal distribution of digital copies of Switch games for some time.
