RG 1/144 Gundam Epyon Returns to Premium Bandai US for Limited Time Restock

The RG 1/144 Gundam Epyon is back in stock at Premium Bandai US, giving Gundam Wing fans another opportunity to add one of the Real Grade line’s most distinctive transforming kits to their collection.

Based on the OZ-13MS Gundam Epyon from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, the kit recreates the red close-combat mobile suit with layered armor, detailed mechanical sections, expansive wings, and a transformation into its two-headed Mobile Armor form.

Gundam Epyon was secretly developed under the direction of Treize Khushrenada before eventually becoming closely associated with Zechs Merquise during the final stages of the series.

Unlike many of the franchise’s other leading mobile suits, Epyon was designed entirely around close-range combat and carries no conventional rifles or projectile weapons.

Its primary armament consists of a large Beam Sword and the segmented Heat Rod attached to the Epyon Shield, with both weapons recreated through effect parts and flexible components that support a wide variety of attack poses.

Bandai developed the RG kit around Epyon’s aggressive fighting style, using a highly articulated internal structure that allows the completed model to hold and swing its oversized Beam Sword with one or both hands.

The torso combines multiple articulation points with an extending abdominal section, allowing the body to lean forward more naturally during charging, slashing, and two-handed attack poses.

Additional movement within the waist increases the model’s ability to bend forward, backward, and from side to side without immediately disrupting the position of the hips or legs.

The shoulder joints use a pull-out mechanism and horizontal movement to create more room for the arms, while the shoulder armor can shift independently to avoid restricting the upper body.

This makes it possible to lift the Beam Sword above the head, hold it across the torso, or recreate wide sweeping strikes without forcing the shoulders into unnatural positions.

Rotational articulation in the forearms and extra movement above the wrists provide greater control over the angle of the hands, helping the Beam Sword follow the direction of each pose more convincingly.

The hip joints feature a locking mechanism that provides additional stability during wide-legged stances while still supporting the repositioning required for Epyon’s transformation.

The leg joints can be adjusted after releasing the internal waist locks, expanding the range available for dynamic Mobile Suit poses and the conversion into Mobile Armor mode.

Movable knee armor follows the motion of the joint, preventing the pointed armor sections around the legs from obstructing deeper bends or kneeling positions.

The large backpack connects to the body through a locking structure designed to support the weight of Epyon’s wings without placing excessive pressure on the central connection point.

Each wing can move independently at its base, while smaller feather-like sections deploy in response to the movement of the larger external panels.

The wings can also be repositioned vertically, allowing you to change the silhouette depending on whether Epyon is standing, attacking, flying, or being displayed in its transformed configuration.

One of the kit’s defining features is its transformation into a pterosaur-like Mobile Armor form based on the two-headed configuration seen in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

The transformation involves removing the hands, deploying the claws beneath the forearms, opening the rear waist armor, repositioning the legs, adjusting the wing connections, and attaching the Epyon Shield with the Heat Rod extended.

The claws beneath the arms double as landing gear when the transformed model is placed on a flat surface, while the individual claw sections can be adjusted to create a more stable or creature-like stance.

The two Mobile Armor heads include opening mouths and movable antennae, adding articulation to areas that could otherwise have appeared static in the transformed configuration.

Pull-out joints in the lower legs and additional movement inside the thighs allow the two neck sections to curve and bend, giving the Mobile Armor a more organic flying-creature appearance.

Separate display connectors are included for the Mobile Suit and Mobile Armor configurations, although a compatible Action Base is sold separately for elevated poses.

Epyon’s Beam Sword is recreated with a large translucent effect part that is approximately as long as the mobile suit itself.

The Beam Sword’s hilt can be mounted on the right hip when it is not being used, while an included lead wire recreates the energy cable connecting the weapon to the mobile suit.

The Epyon Shield attaches to the left forearm and acts as the mounting point for the Heat Rod, keeping the weapon closely integrated into the arm rather than functioning as a separate handheld accessory.

The Heat Rod uses a pre-assembled Advanced MS Joint component that allows the individual segments to form wide curves, circular movements, and twisting shapes without requiring every section to be connected separately.

Its flexible construction makes it possible to display the weapon wrapped around an opponent, extended outward during an attack, or curled alongside the body in a more compact pose.

The Heat Rod can also be converted into its stored configuration by removing the segmented section, repositioning the shield connection, and reinstalling the pointed tip.

Included hand options consist of closed fists for both arms, Beam Sword-holding hands for both arms, and an open left hand for more expressive poses.

The full accessory selection includes the Beam Sword, Beam Sword holder, Epyon Shield, Heat Rod, interchangeable hand parts, Mobile Suit and Mobile Armor display connectors, a lead wire, and a sheet of Realistic Decals.

Foil stickers are included for the twin eyes and selected sensors, while additional marking stickers add smaller mechanical and surface details across the completed model.
