Square Enix Reveals New Limited-Edition Final Fantasy Resonance Red Wine
Image by Charlotte DavisFinal Fantasy Resonance is getting its own official red wine, with Square Enix teaming up with historic Japanese winery Château Mercian for a special release designed around the upcoming RPG.
The collaboration brings together one of Square Enix’s newest Final Fantasy projects with a winery whose roots stretch back to the earliest years of commercial winemaking in Japan.
Château Mercian traces its history back to Dai-Nihon Yamanashi Budoshu Gaisha, the country’s first private wine company, which was established in Katsunuma, Yamanashi Prefecture in 1877.
The winery has since built its identity around producing wines that reflect Japan’s individual growing regions, with vineyards now spread across Yamanashi, Nagano, Akita and Fukushima.
The partnership also represents a first for Château Mercian, as the Japanese wine producer has never previously released an official collaboration based on a video game.
Final Fantasy Resonance was first revealed by Square Enix in June 2026 as the first Final Fantasy project built around the company’s HD-2D visual style, combining pixel-art characters with modern lighting, depth and three-dimensional environments.
Its central concept asks what Final Fantasy might look like if the series had continued evolving while retaining its pixel-based presentation, resulting in a new RPG that mixes classic Final Fantasy imagery with modern production techniques.
The story draws heavily from the first season of the now-discontinued mobile RPG Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, following Rain, Lasswell and Fina while rebuilding the original material with new content, revised systems and a structure created for a full console and PC release.
Players will also encounter familiar elements from across Final Fantasy history, including Chocobos, airships and Espers, while the Vision system allows characters from earlier games in the series to appear as part of the new adventure.
Square Enix has continued expanding the physical merchandise surrounding the game since its reveal, including a Collector’s Goods Box containing pixel-art acrylic displays, a 120-page art book, four-disc soundtrack and promotional Final Fantasy Trading Card Game card.
The newly announced wine adds something very different to that lineup, with the “Château Mercian Rouge for FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE” using one of Château Mercian’s Japanese red wines as its base and pairing it with artwork created around the atmosphere and world of the game.
The wine is described as having complex aromas reminiscent of dried fruit and spices, alongside a rich fruit character, firm tannins, and an elegant, balanced finish.
Its presentation has also been developed specifically for the collaboration, with the illustrated bottle supplied inside a dedicated gift box that carries the Final Fantasy Resonance artwork across the wider package.
That gives the release a stronger display element for fans, with the presentation box able to remain part of a Final Fantasy collection after the wine itself has been opened.
“Château Mercian Rouge for FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE” contains 750ml of red wine with an alcohol content of 13% and will be priced at ¥13,000 (approximately $84 USD / £62 GBP).
The wine will be sold exclusively in Japan through the official Château Mercian Online store from October 22, 2026, launching on the same day as Final Fantasy Resonance.
Final Fantasy Resonance itself is scheduled to release on October 22 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Microsoft Store, with the Steam version following on October 23.
