Square Enix Is Officially Turning Final Fantasy’s Chocobo Into Curry This October

Square Enix has found a very different way to celebrate Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026, turning the wonderfully oversized Fat Chocobo into an official curry as part of a huge new merchandise collection created for the upcoming Tokyo event.

The FINAL FANTASY XIV Fat Chocobo Curry is one of the strangest inclusions in the third wave of Fan Festival merchandise, joining everything from plush toys and fragrances to streetwear, music releases and expensive jewelry.

Chocobos have been a recurring part of Final Fantasy since their introduction in Final Fantasy II, evolving from the series’ familiar bird-shaped mounts into some of its most recognizable mascots over the decades.

Final Fantasy XIV has embraced plenty of variations on the creature, but few are as immediately recognizable as the enormous Fat Chocobo, whose comically round appearance has made it a fan favorite across mounts, merchandise and other appearances.

The new edible version continues Square Enix’s habit of finding increasingly unusual ways to turn Final Fantasy XIV’s creatures and in-game references into real-world merchandise, with the Fat Chocobo Curry priced at ¥1,080 (approx. $7 USD / £5 GBP).

Unlike many items from the wider Fan Festival collection, however, the Fat Chocobo Curry is exclusive to Japan and is not being offered through Square Enix’s US, European or UK online stores.

It is not the only food-related item either, with FINAL FANTASY XIV Gummies priced at ¥1,900 (approx. $12 USD / £9 GBP) also joining the Tokyo collection.

Also available are an Alpha Squadron bomber jacket, multiple Lit Bāff Apt. apparel items, 21 job-themed fragrances, an Emet-Selch silver earring, Calyx and Golden Alpaca plushes, a Moogle neon light and the recently announced Pulse: FINAL FANTASY XIV Remix Album Vol. 3

Pre-orders for the full collection are now open through the official Square Enix e-STORE in Japan and will remain available until October 1, 2026, with shipping scheduled to begin from October 16.

This latest wave of Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival merchandise is not restricted to fans located in Japan or those physically attending the Tokyo event, as Square Enix has made most of the new products available directly through its regional online stores in the US, Europe and UK as well.

Fans ordering through the Japanese Square Enix e-STORE who spend at least ¥14,000 (approx. $88 USD / £65 GBP) on eligible merchandise during the pre-order period will also receive a Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 art board while supplies last, limited to one per Square Enix account.

Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Tokyo will take over Makuhari Messe on October 31 and November 1, with a huge number of stage events, developer presentations, activities and celebrations centered around the MMORPG all set to take place.
