SEGA has announced a multi-year partnership agreement between its iconic character, Sonic the Hedgehog, and the British racing team McLaren Racing.

Under this agreement, Sonic will become the “Official Gaming Partner” of McLaren Racing Limited.

This collaboration unites two brands recognized globally for their pursuit of speed, innovation, and ability to engage fans worldwide.

The partnership highlights common ground between Sonic’s dynamic world and McLaren Racing’s achievements on the track, both striving to inspire future generations.

The announcement also marks a reunion after more than three decades.

At the 1993 European Grand Prix, often referred to as the “Sonic Grand Prix,” McLaren F1 Team driver Ayrton Senna was presented with a Sonic the Hedgehog trophy on the podium.

This new partnership pays tribute to that historical connection while looking toward future initiatives.

Future plans include a fusion of motorsports and gaming experiences.

The partnership will extend from Sonic’s 2025 brand campaign, “Racing Around the World,” through Sonic’s 35th anniversary in 2026, and up to McLaren F1 Team’s 1000th Grand Prix milestone.

As part of this collaboration, SEGA is planning an event at “McLaren Racing Live: London,” held at Trafalgar Square in London, UK, from Wednesday, July 2 to Thursday, July 3, 2025.

For 2025, Sonic’s brand theme is “Racing Around the World,” aiming to deliver experiences that embody Sonic’s speed and adventurous spirit, driven by passion.

SEGA also has plans to release its “ultimate racing game” to date, Sonic Racing Cross World, which ties into this broader theme.

Further details on forthcoming content will be announced throughout 2025.
