Science SARU’s THE GHOST IN THE SHELL Anime Receives New Trailer and Visual

The official website for THE GHOST IN THE SHELL anime series has released a second trailer and key visual on January 30, 2026.
The new visual, which features the protagonist Motoko Kusanagi and the AI-Equipped Thinking Tank known as Fuchikoma, was illustrated by the anime’s character designer and chief animation director Shuhei Handa.

The original manga was first serialized in Kodansha’s YOUNG MAGAZINE from April 1989 to November 1990 and continues to be a staple of the sci-fi genre.
The story follows Major Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg superagent tasked with hunting down dangerous cybercriminals in a future where the line between humans and machines is blurred.

One of her primary targets is the Puppeteer, a master hacker capable of exploiting human-machine interfaces to reprogram individuals for criminal ends.
Kusanagi’s investigation into these threats explores deep philosophical questions regarding the nature of consciousness and the human soul.
This latest adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s iconic cyberpunk manga is being produced by studio Science SARU and is scheduled to premiere in July 2026.

The production team includes Moko-chan as the director and To Enjo as the scriptwriter, with Shuhei Handa handling character designs.
The musical score is a collaborative effort by Taisei Iwasaki, Ryo Konishi, and YUKI KANESAKA, with Iwasaki also serving as the music director.
