Pokémon and adidas Reveal 3 New 30th Anniversary Collab 8-Ball Leather Jackets
Image by James RichardsonPokémon and adidas have revealed three new 8-Ball jackets inspired by Pikachu, Charizard and Gengar, bringing some of the biggest characters from the franchise to one of adidas’ most recognizable retro outerwear styles.
Released as part of the wider Pokémon 30th anniversary collaboration, the jackets take the oversized look of adidas’ 8-Ball outerwear and give each version its own colors and character artwork.
All three use a similar layout, with a large Pokémon graphic across the back, an adidas Trefoil on the front and a Poké Ball graphic sewn onto the elbow.
The sleeves are then color-matched to the featured Pokémon, giving each jacket its own look while keeping the same overall shape and layout.
The Pikachu version uses yellow sleeves against a predominantly black body, with a large textured Pikachu graphic covering much of the back.
Charizard’s jacket switches those details to orange and uses a large Charizard graphic across the rear.
Gengar completes the trio by combining the black body with purple sleeves and matching character artwork across the back.
The jackets form part of a much larger Pokémon x adidas collection created for the franchise’s 30th anniversary, with character-inspired sneakers based on Pikachu, Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, Mewtwo, Rayquaza, Gastly, Haunter and Gengar also included across the wider release.
Several of those footwear designs were first revealed in August, including heavily customized sneakers inspired by Pikachu, Charizard and Gengar rather than simple color swaps of existing adidas models.
Pokémon has also been busy with other fashion collaborations during its anniversary year, with Crocs revealing new Pikachu, Gengar and Jigglypuff designs in August alongside its Poké Ball-inspired Classic Clog.
Image by Charlotte DavisJapanese retailer GU followed in early September with another Pokémon clothing collection, this time focusing on outdoor-inspired jackets, fleece, sweatshirts and other fall apparel.
The wider Pokémon x adidas collaboration has already launched in Japan on September 15, where the selection includes footwear, jerseys, hoodies, accessories and the same three 8-Ball jackets.
Japan has also received six region-exclusive “Pokémon T-shirt Tokyo” designs that will not be part of the US release.
The Tokyo range consists of three different graphics, with each one available on both black and white T-shirts exclusively through the Japanese collection.
For US fans, the Pikachu, Charizard and Gengar 8-Ball jackets are now available in unisex sizing and are priced at $280 each.
All three are currently available through Dick’s Sporting Goods, with adidas expected to give the jackets a wider US release later in September.
