Pokémon’s adidas 30th Anniversary Collab Officially Launches as Japan Exclusive Designs Revealed

Pokémon’s new adidas Originals collaboration has officially launched in Japan, bringing a much larger selection of sneakers and apparel than first revealed, alongside six T-shirts that will remain exclusive to the Japanese release.

The “ADIDAS | POKÉMON” collection went on sale on September 15 as part of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary year, with designs inspired by characters including Pikachu, Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, Mewtwo, Rayquaza, Gastly, Haunter and Gengar.

One of the biggest differences between the Japanese and wider international releases is the “Pokémon T-shirt Tokyo” range, which consists of three designs offered in both black and white.

All six Tokyo T-shirts are region-exclusive items created for Japan, meaning they will not be included when the wider collaboration reaches markets such as the US.

The complete Japanese lineup is spread across adidas itself and selected retailers rather than appearing in one place, with ZOZOTOWN alone currently listing 35 Pokémon products covering adult and kids’ footwear, clothing and accessories.

Adult Footwear

• Pokémon Superstar II “Pikachu” White (KI2857) – ¥16,500 (approximately $106 USD / £79 GBP)

The white leather Superstar combines black Three Stripes with gold details and Pikachu references across the shoe.

• Pokémon Superstar II “Charmander” (KI2855) – ¥16,500 (approximately $106 USD / £79 GBP)

Cream white leather is joined by yellow Three Stripes surrounded by flame graphics, orange detailing and Charmander artwork, with Charmander and Poké Ball lace charms also included.

• Pokémon Superstar II “Pikachu” Yellow (KI2858) – ¥17,600 (approximately $113 USD / £84 GBP)

The second Pikachu Superstar switches to a bright yellow textile upper for a much stronger character-inspired finish.

• Pokémon Superstar II “Charmeleon” (KI2856) – ¥17,600 (approximately $113 USD / £84 GBP)

Charmeleon’s evolution from Charmander is reflected through a much deeper scarlet color scheme across the Superstar II.

• Pokémon Superstar Vintage “Charizard” (KI2861) – Japanese retail price not currently confirmed

The final stage of the Charmander evolution line moves to the Superstar Vintage, with Charizard-inspired colors and wing-like panels extending from around the laces.

• Pokémon Superstar II Mid “Pikachu” (KI2862) – ¥24,200 (approximately $156 USD / £116 GBP)

The mid-cut Pikachu design uses a bright yellow upper, large character details and a lightning bolt-shaped tail around the laces, alongside Pikachu and Poké Ball lace charms.

• Pokémon Samba OG “Mewtwo” (KI8220) – ¥16,500 (approximately $106 USD / £79 GBP)

The Samba OG uses pale lavender and darker purple tones inspired by Mewtwo across the low-profile silhouette.

• Pokémon Handball Spezial “Mewtwo” (KI8213) – ¥17,600 (approximately $113 USD / £84 GBP)

A second Mewtwo sneaker brings the same purple character theme to the Handball Spezial, giving fans an alternative to the Samba.

• Pokémon ZX 8000 “Mewtwo” (KI5326) – ¥26,400 (approximately $170 USD / £126 GBP)

The third adult Mewtwo design uses the chunkier ZX 8000 with a mix of Ice Lavender, Violet Fusion and Bliss Lilac.

• Pokémon ZX 500 RS “Rayquaza” (KI8189) – ¥15,400 (approximately $99 USD / £74 GBP)

Rayquaza’s green coloring is used across the ZX 500 RS, combining green, black and smaller yellow and red details inspired by the Legendary Pokémon.

• Pokémon Megaride F50 “Rayquaza” (KI5325) – ¥33,000 (approximately $213 USD / £158 GBP)

The more elaborate Rayquaza sneaker uses a green upper, scale-like textures and a sculpted heel influenced by the Legendary Pokémon’s head.

• Pokémon Adistar Control 5 “Rayquaza” (KI8179) – Japanese retail price not currently confirmed

The third Rayquaza design uses black mesh with green overlays, yellow and red accents and character details across the tongue, heel and sides.

• Pokémon Adistar Control 5 “Gastly” (KJ5610) – Japanese retail price not currently confirmed

Gastly’s Adistar Control 5 uses a mostly black upper with purple and pink accents, reflecting the Ghost-type Pokémon’s dark body and surrounding gas.

• Pokémon Adistar Control 5 “Haunter” (KJ5611) – ¥23,100 (approximately $149 USD / £110 GBP)

Haunter takes over the same silhouette with a stronger purple finish and sharper details inspired by the Ghost-type Pokémon’s pointed appearance.

• Pokémon Adistar XLG 2.0 “Gengar” (KJ5609) – ¥28,600 (approximately $184 USD / £137 GBP)

The Gengar design combines multiple shades of purple with large eye details, pointed sections around the heel and a white front section recreating its wide grin.

Kids’ Footwear

• Pokémon SST Quickon “Pikachu” Infant (KJ5622) – ¥9,350 (approximately $60 USD / £45 GBP)

The baby-sized Superstar-inspired shoe uses a soft yellow upper with Pikachu’s eyes and nose on the front and a fluffy tail detail at the heel.

• Pokémon SST Quickon “Pikachu” Kids (KJ5623) – ¥9,900 (approximately $64 USD / £47 GBP)

The larger children’s version carries over the yellow Pikachu theme while using an easy-on elastic closure.

• Pokémon SST Quickon “Charmander” Infant (KJ5627) – ¥9,350 (approximately $60 USD / £45 GBP)

Charmander’s version switches to an orange upper with character facial details and a flame-inspired tail at the heel.

• Pokémon Samba OG Elastic Lace “Mewtwo” (KI8223) – ¥11,000 (approximately $71 USD / £53 GBP)

The children’s Mewtwo Samba uses a shimmering light-purple upper and elastic laces for easier wear.

Apparel and Accessories

A loose game-shirt style top combining Pokémon graphics with a yellow sportswear-inspired design.

The Pikachu version combines the oversized 8-Ball jacket shape with yellow detailing and large character artwork.

Gengar appears on the black and purple version of the oversized jacket.

Japan-Exclusive Tokyo T-Shirts

The six “Pokémon T-shirt Tokyo” releases are exclusive to Japan, making them the clearest regional difference between this launch and the versions of the collection being released overseas.

The first Japan-exclusive graphic is printed on a white single-jersey T-shirt.

The same Tokyo 1 graphic is also available on a black shirt.

• Pokémon T-shirt Tokyo 2, White – ¥7,150 (approximately $46 USD / £34 GBP)

The second Japan-exclusive design is available with a white base.

The black version features the same Tokyo 2 artwork.

A black version completes the six Japan-exclusive Tokyo T-shirts.

The collection has expanded considerably since the first footwear designs were shown in August, when early previews focused mainly on the more elaborate Pikachu, Charizard and Gengar sneakers.

Pokémon has also continued adding new fashion collaborations during its 30th anniversary year, with GU revealing an outdoor-inspired collection earlier this month featuring characters including Pikachu, Eevee, Mew, Gengar, Charizard and Snorlax.

Another footwear collaboration revealed in August saw Crocs turn its Classic Clog into a full Poké Ball design, adding to the number of brands releasing Pokémon clothing and shoes during the anniversary celebrations.

The “ADIDAS | POKÉMON” collection is now available in Japan through adidas stores, the official adidas online store and selected retailers including ZOZOTOWN, with the exact selection varying between sellers.

Adidas is also running a special Pokémon installation at its MIYASHITA PARK flagship store in Tokyo through October 7, featuring themed decorations and character photo spots.

For US fans, the wider rollout is currently scheduled to continue on September 22, with many of the adult sneaker designs expected through adidas and selected retailers.

Confirmed US pricing includes several Superstar, Samba and Handball Spezial releases at around $110, while higher-priced designs such as the Rayquaza Megaride and Gengar Adistar XLG 2.0 will also be part of the wider launch.

The Pikachu, Gengar and Charizard 8-Ball jackets have already appeared through Dick’s Sporting Goods in the US at $280 each ahead of wider availability.

The six “Pokémon T-shirt Tokyo” designs will not be included in the US release, with those shirts remaining exclusive to Japan.
