The official website for the upcoming television anime Inherit the Winds has debuted its first main trailer on March 28, 2026, offering a look at the series’ core cast and setting.
The production is scheduled to premiere on Japanese television in January 2027, preceded by an advanced theatrical edition screening in Japanese cinemas during 2026.
Nichika Omori, known for her role as Yurine Hanazono in Dropkick on My Devil!, joins the cast as Kurosuke, the resident cat at the Shinsengumi barracks.

New character posters have been unveiled for Toshizo Hijikata and Isami Kondo, who will be voiced by Koki Uchiyama and Yuichi Nakamura respectively.
The anime serves as an adaptation of the first story in the Tachikawa Jinsuke stage play quadrilogy, a long-running series performed by the Caramel Box theatre group since 1996.

Set during the Meiji Restoration era, the narrative follows fictional Shinsengumi soldier Jinsuke Tachikawa, voiced by Daisuke Sakuma, as he navigates the political and social upheaval of a rapidly modernizing Japan.
The story specifically focuses on Tachikawa entering the war and managing the consequences of the historic Kinmon incident.

Playwrights Yutaka Narui and Azuki Mashiba, who penned the original stage works, are involved in the project, with Narui returning to handle the series script.
Tomohiro Kawamura is directing the animation at Live2d Creative Studio and Drive Inc, featuring character designs by Fumi Ebina and a musical score by Shigeru Kishiba.
