Monster Hunter to collaborate with Nara’s Kasuga Grand Shrine for new armor exhibition

Capcom has announced a new collaboration between the Monster Hunter series and one of Japan’s most renowned shrines.
The collaboration will come as part of the “The Elegance of the Samurai” exhibition, titled the “Ultimate National Treasure Great Armor Exhibition” (Kyūkyoku no Kokuhō Ōyoroi-ten) in Japanese, which is scheduled to take place at Nara’s Kasuga Grand Shrine from July 5th to September 7th, 2025.

This partnership brings together elements of the acclaimed fantasy action-RPG with a significant historical display of Japanese armor.
The Monster Hunter series, known for its expansive worlds, diverse ecosystems, and focus on crafting armor and weapons from defeated monsters, has achieved widespread global recognition.

This unique collaboration bridges the fictional armaments of the game with real historical masterpieces.
The exhibition will feature Ōyoroi, or “Great Armors,” which were the most formal and prestigious types of Japanese armor produced primarily from the late Heian period (794-1185) to the Nanboku-chō period (1336-1392).

For the first time in history, two particularly notable National Treasure Ōyoroi will be displayed side-by-side: the “Red Thread Laced Armor (with Chrysanthemum and Crossbow Markings)” from Kushihiki Hachimangū in Aomori Prefecture and the “Red Thread Laced Great Armor (with Bamboo, Tiger, and Sparrow Decorations)” from Kasuga Grand Shrine itself.

The exhibition is described as a large-scale event, bringing together approximately half of all existing National Treasure-designated armors in Japan.
This collection offers a rare opportunity to view these historically significant and intricately crafted pieces up close.

Details on how the Monster Hunter series will integrate with this historical display, beyond the announcement of the collaboration, will be announced by Capcom as the exhibition approaches.
