7 of Gundam’s Most Popular Jumbo SD Figures Are Set to Return This Summer
Plex is bringing back seven oversized SD Gundam sofubi figures, giving fans another opportunity to collect stylized versions of some of the most popular Mobile Suits from across the entire franchise.
The Mobile Suit Gundam series began in 1979 and has since expanded into numerous anime, movies, games and model kit lines, with its instantly recognizable mechanical designs becoming some of the most influential in Japanese pop culture.
These returning figures reinterpret their respective Mobile Suits through the compact proportions of SD Gundam, a long-running spin-off style that combines oversized heads, smaller bodies and simplified shapes with the defining details of the original machines.
Each fully painted figure is made primarily from soft vinyl, creating a durable construction and the heavy, nostalgic texture traditionally associated with Japanese sofubi collectibles.
Standing between approximately 20 and 24 cm tall, the figures feature rotating joints around areas such as the neck, shoulders, and wrists, allowing for a limited selection of display poses.
Weapons and shields can also be equipped or removed depending on the character, while every figure includes a Premium Bandai-exclusive acrylic character plate displaying the name of its Mobile Suit.
The “Jumbo Sofubi Figure SD RX-78-2 Gundam,” priced at ¥16,500 (approx. $110 USD / £83 GBP), measures approximately 23 cm tall and includes a Beam Rifle, Beam Saber, shield and exclusive character plate.
The RX-78-2 Gundam is the central Mobile Suit from the original Mobile Suit Gundam, where it is piloted by Amuro Ray during the One Year War and introduces the series’ now-iconic white, blue, red and yellow hero color scheme.
The “Jumbo Sofubi Figure SD RX-77-2 Guncannon,” priced at ¥16,500 (approx. $110 USD / £83 GBP), stands approximately 23 cm tall and includes a Beam Rifle, two 240 mm cannons, two Spray Missile Launchers and an exclusive character plate.
The Guncannon serves as a heavily armored support Mobile Suit in the original series, combining handheld weaponry with the large shoulder-mounted cannons that define its distinctive silhouette.
The “Jumbo Sofubi Figure SD RX-75 Guntank,” priced at ¥16,500 (approx. $110 USD / £83 GBP), measures approximately 20 cm tall and includes two 120 mm low-recoil cannons alongside its exclusive character plate.
Also introduced in the original Mobile Suit Gundam, the Guntank blends a humanoid upper body with tank treads and long-range artillery, making it one of the franchise’s most unusual early Federation designs.
The “Jumbo Sofubi Figure SD RX-178 Gundam Mk-II Titans Version,” priced at ¥16,500 (approx. $110 USD / £83 GBP), stands approximately 24 cm tall and includes a Beam Rifle, Beam Saber, shield, and exclusive character plate.
The Gundam Mk-II first appears in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam as a prototype developed by the Titans, with its dark navy color scheme representing the organization before one of the machines is captured and repainted by the AEUG.
The “Jumbo Sofubi Figure SD MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam,” priced at ¥21,780 (approx. $145 USD / £109 GBP), measures approximately 24 cm tall and comes with a Double Beam Rifle, Hyper Beam Saber and exclusive character plate.
Piloted by Judau Ashta in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, the heavily armed ZZ Gundam is known for its powerful weapons, bulky frame and transformation system connecting its separate Core Top, Core Base and Core Fighter components.
The “Jumbo Sofubi Figure SD RX-93 Nu Gundam,” priced at ¥21,780 (approx. $145 USD / £109 GBP), stands approximately 24 cm tall and includes a Beam Rifle, Beam Saber, shield and exclusive character plate.
Designed for Amuro Ray in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, the Nu Gundam is one of the franchise’s most celebrated Mobile Suits and is particularly recognized for its asymmetrical Fin Funnel arrangement.
The “Jumbo Sofubi Figure SD MSN-04 Sazabi,” priced at ¥21,780 (approx. $145 USD / £109 GBP), measures approximately 23 cm tall and includes a Beam Shot Rifle, Beam Tomahawk, shield and exclusive character plate.
Sazabi is Char Aznable’s personal Mobile Suit in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, pairing its imposing red armor with funnels and powerful weapons for his final confrontation with Amuro and the Nu Gundam.
Pre-orders for all seven Jumbo Sofubi Figure SD Gundam releases are now open via Premium Bandai, with shipping currently scheduled for August 2026.
