Metroid Prime 4: Beyond gets a release date and three new amiibo

A final release date has been officially announced for the long-awaited and highly anticipated title, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
The news was revealed in a new trailer that was shown during a Nintendo Direct presentation held on the 12th of September.

Metroid Prime 4 has had a famously long and storied development history since it was first announced, and this new reveal finally gives fans a concrete date for its arrival.

The new trailer also showcased a number of new gameplay features.
It revealed that the game will take place on a verdant, unknown planet called “Planet Viewros,” where Samus Aran will explore ancient ruins and battle mysterious creatures.

A major new gameplay mechanic was also revealed: a rideable motorbike for Samus, called the “Vi-O-La.”

The trailer showed Samus driving the bike across the planet’s surface, and it was confirmed that it can be controlled in both a first-person and a third-person perspective.

The Vi-O-La is also equipped with its own special abilities, including a “Boost” and a “Power Slide.”

In addition to the new gameplay, a lineup of three different amiibo figures for the game was also announced.

The new amiibo are:
- Samus

- Samus & Vi-O-La

- Sylux

The game will be released for both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2.
The Switch 2 version is priced at ¥8,980, while the standard Switch version is priced at ¥7,980.

An “upgrade path” is also available, where owners of the Switch version can purchase a ¥1,000 pass to upgrade to the Switch 2 edition.
This was just one of a number of major announcements made during the recent Nintendo Direct presentation.
A major double announcement was also made for the Super Mario franchise, with a new animated film, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” confirmed for an April 2026 release, and a new Nintendo Switch game, “Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2,” announced for an October 2nd release.

A brand-new Pokémon life simulation game, Pokémon Pokopia, was also revealed for a Spring 2026 release.

In one of the most surprising reveals, Nintendo’s infamous 1995 console, the Virtual Boy, is being revived for the Nintendo Switch Online service, and will require a new, replica headset peripheral.

Other announcements included a new, real-life “Talking Flower” from Super Mario Bros. Wonder and a set of interactive amiibo for the upcoming Kirby’s Air Rider.

The two Samus-themed amiibo are scheduled to be released on the 6th of November.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and the Sylux amiibo are both scheduled to be released on Thursday, the 4th of December, 2025.
