Aniplex of America has officially confirmed a North American theatrical release for “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgisnacht Rising,” bringing the long-awaited sequel to cinemas in January 2027.

The announcement finally gives North American fans a chance to see the continuation of Homura and Madoka’s story on the big screen following the movie’s Japanese premiere earlier this year.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica originally aired as a 12-episode television anime in 2011, following Madoka Kaname after her encounter with Kyubey draws her into the hidden world of magical girls and exposes the devastating consequences behind their contracts.

The television story was subsequently reworked into the theatrical compilation movies “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings” and “Part 2: Eternal” in 2012 before “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 3: Rebellion” continued the story with completely new material in 2013.

“Walpurgisnacht Rising” is a direct sequel to “Rebellion” and continues from the radically altered world created at the end of that movie, returning the focus to Madoka, Homura Akemi and the other magical girls more than a decade after their last original theatrical story.
