Madoka Magica’s Biggest Release of the Year Is Here, and It’s Not the New Movie
Image by Charlotte DavisPuella Magi Madoka Magica finally has a new movie in theaters, but its biggest release of 2026 may be something else entirely: a pair of enormous 1-meter plushes of Madoka Kaname and Homura Akemi.
Anime goods manufacturer Taito officially opened pre-orders for the two new jumbo-sized plushes on August 28, deliberately lining up their reveal with the Japanese premiere of Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgisnacht Rising.
The new movie is the first completely original Madoka Magica theatrical release in more than a decade, continuing directly from 2013’s Rebellion and returning to the complicated relationship between Madoka and Homura.
Madoka begins the original series as an ordinary middle-school student whose encounter with Kyubey draws her into the hidden world of magical girls, eventually placing her at the center of events that completely reshape the rules governing their existence.
Homura’s connection to Madoka becomes equally important as the story develops, with her repeated attempts to protect Madoka ultimately driving many of the franchise’s biggest twists and continuing to shape the story heading into Walpurgisnacht Rising.
The new releases come from Taito’s “DoQute” line, a range built around extremely oversized character plushes that generally stand around 1 meter tall (just over 3 foot 3 inches) and turn familiar anime and game characters into huge display pieces.
The series has previously tackled characters including Cardcaptor Sakura’s Sakura Kinomoto and members of hololive Production, with Taito also producing DoQute releases based on Uma Musume, Demon Slayer, The Idolmaster and other major franchises.
The “DoQute Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgisnacht Rising Extra-Large Plush Madoka Kaname,” priced at ¥66,000 (approx. $412 USD / £305 GBP), measures approximately 100 cm tall, 93 cm wide and 75 cm deep.
Its exaggerated proportions see Madoka recreated in the same style as Taito’s other DoQute releases, making this closer to a room-sized character collectible than a conventional plush.
The matching “DoQute Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgisnacht Rising Extra-Large Plush Homura Akemi,” also priced at ¥66,000 (approx. $412 USD / £305 GBP), stands approximately 100 cm tall, 70 cm wide, and 75 cm deep.
Together, the pair gives fans the option of displaying the two characters side by side at a scale that feels especially appropriate considering just how central their relationship remains to the new movie.
The giant plushes are only part of the merchandise surrounding Walpurgisnacht Rising’s long-awaited premiere, with Japanese theaters also receiving a light-up popcorn box featuring Madoka on one side and Homura on the other alongside several additional cinema exclusives.

Taito is currently planning to ship the Madoka Kaname and Homura Akemi DoQute plushes in March 2027.
