New and Exclusive Madoka Magica Popcorn Bucket Revealed Ahead of Walpurgisnacht Rising Premiere
Image by James RichardsonMadoka and Homura are taking center stage on a new light-up popcorn box created to celebrate the long-awaited release of “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgisnacht Rising,” alongside a range of other exclusive merchandise.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica originally aired as a 12-episode television anime in 2011, following ordinary middle-school student Madoka Kaname after an encounter with Kyubey introduces her to the dangerous reality behind becoming a magical girl.
The TV anime story was subsequently reworked into the movies Beginnings and Eternal in 2012, before Rebellion continued the story with an original theatrical sequel in 2013.
Walpurgisnacht Rising follows directly from Rebellion and marks the first completely new Madoka Magica movie in more than a decade, continuing the story of Madoka, Homura and the other magical girls.
The centerpiece of the new cinema merch collection is the “Walpurgisnacht Rising Popcorn Box,” priced at ¥4,500 (approx. $28 USD / £21 GBP), which uses Madoka artwork on one side and Homura on the other.
Its exterior is decorated with a stained-glass-inspired pattern built around the two characters, while an integrated lighting feature allows the artwork to illuminate when displayed.
The illuminated design gives the box a second purpose as a display piece after the movie, particularly when the stained-glass-style artwork is viewed with the internal light switched on.
Batteries are not included, so anyone planning to use the lighting feature will need to purchase those separately.
T-Joy theaters will also exclusively offer a “Kyubey Clear Bottle” for ¥1,900 (approx. $12 USD / £9 GBP).
The transparent bottle uses the movie’s poster visual around its body, while the lid is topped with a sculpted recreation of Kyubey’s head.
A separate Madoka-themed collaboration drink will be available for ¥750 (approx. $5 USD / £3 GBP) at some T-Joy theaters.
Fans purchasing the drink will receive one of three randomly distributed clear book covers while supplies last, with the designs using poster and character artwork from Walpurgisnacht Rising.
All three items will go on sale exclusively at T-Joy theaters in Japan on August 28, the same day that Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgisnacht Rising opens.
