Nintendo’s sold-out Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 has received a fresh wave of pre-order stock, offering renewed hope to fans around the world who missed their chance to secure the special-edition console.

The “Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition” has returned for pre-order alongside its matching Pro Controller and several accessory bundles, just days before the hardware’s official release.

The latest restock arrived at Japanese retailer Rakuten Books on October 21, 2026, where additional reservations became available after earlier allocations had sold out.

Although these particular pre-orders are limited to Japan, the announcement comes as fans in other regions, including the US, continue to struggle to find the anniversary console in stock.

Nintendo’s official US store currently lists the Zelda-themed Switch 2 as sold out, alongside the matching Pro Controller and carrying case.

Nintendo has also acknowledged the unexpectedly high demand for its Zelda anniversary products, with Bill van Zyll, Vice President and General Manager of Nintendo in Latin America, confirming that additional stock is being planned.

Speaking to Brazilian outlet Coelho no Japão earlier this month, van Zyll explained that Nintendo had underestimated demand for the anniversary releases, with pre-orders quickly reaching their limits across multiple markets, including the US and Brazil.

When asked specifically about restocking the special-edition Switch 2, he confirmed that Nintendo was working on replenishments covering the console, Pro Controller, and related software, but couldn’t provide specific dates or quantities.

The comments offer some reassurance to fans still hoping to purchase the anniversary hardware, although Nintendo has yet to confirm when additional consoles will become available in the US or other international markets.

The anniversary console was originally revealed during September’s Nintendo Direct celebrating 40 years of The Legend of Zelda, which began with the original game’s release for the Famicom Disk System in Japan in February 1986.

Nintendo used the presentation to reveal several new games, products, and events, including the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which recreates the classic Nintendo 64 adventure with extensively updated visuals and gameplay.

The special-edition console features a black and gold design inspired by the Zelda series, with Triforce symbols decorating the back of the system, its Joy-Con 2 controllers and the accompanying dock.

A matching anniversary Pro Controller features additional Zelda-inspired details and is available separately, including a version supplied with a dedicated display stand.

Nintendo has also released a matching carrying case with a screen protector, allowing fans to complete the anniversary-themed hardware collection.

The console and accessories form part of a wider celebration of Zelda’s 40th anniversary, which has also seen Nintendo announce a worldwide orchestral concert tour featuring performances in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia throughout 2027.

For the latest restock, Rakuten Books reopened pre-orders for the Japanese-language version of the anniversary console and its matching Pro Controller on October 21.

The retailer also offered two additional bundles, including a set containing the Pro Controller and carrying case, alongside a larger package combining the console, controller, and carrying case.

Importantly, the Japanese version of the console, including those available from Rakuten Books, is a domestic-only model that supports Japanese as its system language and can only be linked to Nintendo Accounts registered in Japan, making it unsuitable as a straightforward alternative for most international buyers.

The “Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition” is officially scheduled for release on October 29, 2026, ahead of the November 5 launch of the new Ocarina of Time remake, which is sold separately.

In Japan, the anniversary console is priced at ¥62,980 (approximately $398 / £298), with the matching Pro Controller and display stand priced at ¥12,980 (approximately $82 / £61) and the carrying case costing ¥3,980 (approximately $25 / £19).

US retail pricing is set at $519.99 for the console, $99.99 for the anniversary Pro Controller, $109.99 for the controller and display stand package, and $39.99 for the carrying case.

Although Nintendo has confirmed plans to replenish the anniversary hardware, no dates or quantities have been announced for future US restocks, leaving American fans who haven’t yet secured their pre-order with no clear opportunity to do so.
