Kiki’s Delivery Service IMAX 4K Screening Debuts At #7 In U.S. Box Office

The IMAX 4K restoration of the classic Studio Ghibli film Kiki’s Delivery Service secured the number seven spot at the United States box office during its opening weekend.
Released by GKIDS on March 13, 2026, the film generated an estimated US$1,668,734 across 249 screens during its first three days of exhibition.

Daily earnings for the animated feature included US$493,004 on Friday, March 13, followed by US$652,408 on Saturday, March 14, and an estimated US$523,322 on Sunday, March 15.

Theatrical screenings are currently available in the original Japanese audio with English subtitles as well as a localized English language dub.

This release follows a 2023 screening during the Studio Ghibli Fest and is part of a larger initiative announced in December to bring high-quality 4K restorations to North American IMAX theaters throughout 2026.

Studio Ghibli animator Atsushi Okui is personally overseeing the production of these new IMAX versions to ensure the highest visual fidelity for fans.

In addition to the Ghibli success, the re-release of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle: Akaza Sairai moved to the number 18 position in its second weekend of its return to theaters.

The first film in the Demon Slayer trilogy earned approximately US$335,000 from March 13 to March 15, bringing its total domestic gross to US$136,632,141.

The Demon Slayer film returned to North American cinemas on March 6, 2026, via Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment, marking its debut on SCREENX multi-projection screens.

Originally premiering in the United States and Canada on September 12, 2025, the film had previously opened at number 10 during its recent re-release weekend with US$1,300,000 in earnings.
