Kenshi Yonezu’s “Donut Hole” Gets Music Video By Production I.G

A fully animated music video for “Donut Hole”, a song released in 2013 by Kenshi Yonezu under the pseudonym “Hachi”, has been released, with animation from Production I.G.

Best known for his 2022 single “KICK BACK”, featured as the first opening song for the anime “CHAINSAW MAN”, Kenshi Yonezu began his musical career by releasing Vocaloid music as far back as 2009, before debuting under his own name and voice in 2012.

Originally written and released on October 28th 2013, the song was produced by “Hachi” with vocals provided by the Vocaloid GUMI.

The song was accompanied by a basic music video that showed original drawings and character concepts created by “Hachi” of GUMI, Hatsune Miku, Megurine Luka and Kagamine Rin.

The new music video is directed by Kamiya Yuki, who is best known for directing the opening of the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen, which was set to “SPECIALZ” by King Gnu.

Character design was handed over to Chiba Takahiro, general animation director for “Haikyu!! The Movie: Battle at the Dump”.

Overall production was handled by BLUE RIGHTS, which was founded by Kimura Makoto, who was formerly with Twin Engine and MAPPA.

The story of the music video uses the original drawings and concepts created by “Hachi”/Kenshi Yonezu to establish a story whereby GUMI, Miku, Luka, and Rin run a junk collection business in a messy downtown area.
