Japan Airlines adds Gundam anime to its in-flight entertainment lineup

Episodes of the iconic anime franchise Mobile Suit Gundam are now available as part of the in-flight entertainment selection on Japan Airlines (JAL) flights.
This move is part of a growing trend that sees major global airlines partnering with popular anime brands to expand their entertainment offerings for passengers.

Earlier this month, a similar, major partnership was announced between the anime streaming giant Crunchyroll and the U.S.-based Delta Air Lines.

That deal will bring a specially curated selection of anime from Crunchyroll’s massive library to Delta’s seatback screens later this year.
The new offering from Japan Airlines brings one of the country’s most significant and long-running pop culture properties to its domestic and international flights.

The lineup includes content from both the classic, original 1979 series and the recent 2024 series.
Passengers can now watch Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-.

This title is a compilation film that serves as an introduction to the latest television series in the franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, which has been praised for its fresh take on the classic Gundam formula.

Four pivotal episodes from the original Mobile Suit Gundam have also been selected for viewing.

The classic episodes available are:
- Episode 1: “Gundam Rising!!”
- Episode 29: “Tragedy in Jaburo!”
- Episode 42: “Space Fortress A Baoa Qu”
- Episode 43: “Escape”

In addition to the full anime episodes, a special audio program has also been added to the selection.
The program, “Gundam Series Theme Songs,” features a curated playlist of iconic theme music from across the franchise’s long history.

These new partnerships highlight the increasing recognition of anime as a premiere form of global entertainment, on par with blockbuster movies and popular television shows.
