Initial D’s Legendary AE86 vs RX-7 Rivalry Comes to Life on New Limited-Edition Jacket

A new officially licensed Initial D apparel release is giving fans the chance to showcase their love for the legendary street-racing series through a premium embroidered sukajan/souvenir jacket.
Created by merchandise brand CAMSHOP.JP, the limited-edition jacket faithfully captures the spirit of Initial D through detailed embroidery that recreates memorable imagery from the manga and anime franchise.

Written and illustrated by Shuichi Shigeno, Initial D debuted in 1995 and went on to become one of the most influential automotive manga series ever published, surpassing 56 million copies in circulation worldwide.

The story follows Takumi Fujiwara, a seemingly ordinary teenager whose daily tofu delivery runs behind the wheel of a Toyota AE86 transform him into an exceptional mountain pass racer.

The series became famous for featuring real-world performance cars, thrilling downhill battles, and character-driven rivalries that helped inspire generations of automotive enthusiasts.

Its popularity extended well beyond Japan, finding fans throughout Asia, Europe, and other international markets through translated manga releases and anime adaptations.

The franchise later expanded with “MF Ghost,” which explored a future era of public-road racing, while the newest installment continues the legacy with “Subaru and Comet”.

The new “Initial D Sukajan” completely relies on embroidery rather than printed graphics.

Every visual element has been created using stitched detailing, providing a textured, premium appearance that gives the jacket both fashion appeal and collectible value.

The main attraction of the jacket is the depiction of the iconic battle between Takumi’s Toyota AE86 and Keisuke Takahashi’s Mazda RX-7, one of the series’ most memorable races.

The intricate embroidery helps bring the high-speed confrontation to life, celebrating a defining moment from the series.

The jacket is produced using fabric with an elegant sheen that complements the traditional sukajan aesthetic while maintaining a comfortable and lightweight feel for everyday wear.
Two color variations are available, with fans able to choose between GOLD and SILVER editions.

The “Initial D Sukajan” has been produced in limited quantities, and sales will conclude once available stock is sold out.

The jacket is currently available for 14,080 yen (approx. $95 USD/£70 GBP), with orders being fulfilled on a rolling basis through CAMSHOP.JP while supplies last.
