Gundam RG XARX-ZERO’s First Gunpla Kit Gets Official Release Date as Pre-Orders Open

Bandai has officially confirmed the release date for the first Gunpla kit based on its new Gundam anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO.
The new “HG 1/144 Gundam ZERO” recreates the anime’s protagonist Mobile Suit, the experimental XARX-0 Gundam ZERO.

Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO is the latest entry in the long-running Gundam franchise, forming part of the new RG Project that connects the anime with the upcoming action game GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT through a shared universe.

The anime takes place approximately 100 years before the game, following Ray Azumi, a young war orphan who becomes the pilot of Gundam ZERO as humanity struggles to survive against mysterious silicon-based lifeforms known as the Apocalypse.

Bandai first revealed the Gundam ZERO Gunpla kit in July 2026, shortly after the anime’s announcement, before unveiling its first painted prototype alongside the Gundam Helix during an official livestream in August.

The kit was subsequently displayed at October’s All Japan Model & Hobby Show, giving fans a closer look at its unusual articulation system and mechanical design ahead of the official product announcement.

For the finished release, Bandai has recreated the Gundam ZERO’s distinctive design by Eiichi Shimizu, incorporating its detailed armour, twin forearm-mounted shields and large backpack unit.

The model includes a beam rifle, two beam sabers and interchangeable hand parts, allowing it to recreate several of the machine’s combat poses from the upcoming anime.

One of the kit’s main features is its new spine-linked articulation system, which uses a series of segmented mechanical components along the back that move together with the chest and waist to reproduce the Gundam ZERO’s unusually flexible movements.

Bandai has also confirmed that the kit will be the first Gunpla to use its new six-color Iropla molding technology, allowing white, grey, dark blue, red, light blue, and yellow plastic to be formed on a single runner.

The new manufacturing process expands on the previous four-color system used in Gunpla production, with Bandai stating that it can also reduce the electricity and plastic materials required during manufacturing.
The Gundam ZERO is just one of several new Gunpla releases planned for the RG Project, with Bandai also confirming a January 2027 release for the “HG 1/144 Gundam Helix” from GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT.

Other upcoming kits include new High Grade models of the Bau Bahlam and Calice, alongside an exclusive Earth Blue version of the Gundam Helix included with the game’s Collector’s Edition.

The “HG 1/144 Gundam ZERO” is now officially scheduled for release in April 2027, coinciding with the premiere month of Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, with a Japanese retail price of ¥2,750 (approximately $17 / £13).

Pre-orders have begun opening through Japanese hobby retailers from October 15, 2026, with Bandai yet to confirm international release details through channels such as Premium Bandai US.
