Gundam’s Sold-Out RX-78-2 Sleeping Bag Returns as New NANGA Collab Collection Revealed
STRICT-G is bringing back its sold-out RX-78-2 Gundam Shield Sleeping Bag for a second pre-order run, with the returning outdoor collectible joined by four new Mobile Suit Gundam apparel designs created with Japanese outdoor specialist NANGA.
The sleeping bag originally opened for pre-orders in March 2026 and subsequently sold out, prompting Bandai to offer another opportunity to order it alongside the expanded collaboration.
Mobile Suit Gundam first aired in 1979 and introduced Amuro Ray and the RX-78-2 Gundam, establishing the more grounded approach to mecha warfare that helped turn the series into one of Japan’s most influential science-fiction franchises.
NANGA traces its history back to 1941 and specializes in down products and outdoor equipment, with its name taken from Nanga Parbat in the Himalayas.
The returning RX-78-2 Gundam Shield Sleeping Bag, priced at ¥68,200 (approx. $433 USD / £321 GBP), transforms the mobile suit’s instantly recognizable red, white, and yellow shield into a functional three-season sleeping bag designed for users approximately 166 cm to 178 cm tall.
Its outer shell and lining are made from 100% nylon, while 350 grams of insulation combines 80% down with 20% feathers that have been washed and processed by Japanese feather specialist Kawada Feather.
NANGA uses a lightweight single-quilt construction that directly joins the outer and inner materials, while an internal draft tube helps prevent cold air from entering through the zipper.
The zipper also incorporates an anti-snag component intended to reduce damage to the fabric, with glow-in-the-dark material making it easier to locate and operate after dark.
NANGA backs the sleeping bag with its established aftercare services, including repairs, cleaning, and the option to increase the amount of down insulation when required.
Joining it is the RX-78-2 Gundam Logo Raglan T-Shirt, priced at ¥7,700 (approx. $49 USD / £36 GBP), which combines Gundam imagery with NANGA branding across a casual raglan design.
The Char’s Zaku II Logo Raglan T-Shirt, also priced at ¥7,700 (approx. $49 USD / £36 GBP), gives the same collaboration a Principality of Zeon-inspired alternative centered on Char Aznable’s famous red mobile suit.
The RX-78-2 Gundam Logo Sweatshirt, priced at ¥14,300 (approx. $91 USD / £67 GBP), carries the Gundam and NANGA crossover into a heavier layer suited to cooler weather.
The Char’s Zaku II Logo Sweatshirt, also priced at ¥14,300 (approx. $91 USD / £67 GBP), completes the four-piece apparel range with matching NANGA branding and imagery based on Amuro’s legendary rival machine.
Pre-orders for the sleeping bag and all four apparel items open through the STRICT-G Online Store on Premium Bandai Japan at 1:00 PM JST on August 7 and remain available until 11:00 PM JST on August 16, 2026, unless allocated stock sells out earlier.

availability has not yet been confirmed, although it remains possible that some or all of the collection could appear there later, as has happened with many previous STRICT-G releases.
The new T-shirts and sweatshirts are currently scheduled to ship in Japan during October 2026, while second-run orders for the RX-78-2 Gundam Shield Sleeping Bag are planned for November 2026.
A general retail launch at STRICT-G stores across Japan is also scheduled for October 31, 2026.
