Gundam GQuuuuuuX’s “HG Light Cannon” model kit launches this July
The latest addition to BANDAI SPIRITS range of Gundam model kits will soon be released.
The “Light Cannon” mobile suit features in “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX”, the most recent anime series in the long running Gundam franchise.
In this series, the traditional course of the One Year War is dramatically altered and leads to a world where mobile suit dueling, known as “Clan Battles” has become a major underground activity.
The “Light Cannon” is designed as a light artillery unit and is the GQuuuuuuX equivalent of the RGM-79 GM mobile suit from the original series.
Its design pays homage to both that mobile suit and the Guncannon, an Earth Federation Forces mobile suit known for its long-range support fire that appeared in the original Gundam anime.
High Grade (HG) Gunpla kits are popular with beginners and experienced Gunpla builders looking for quick, enjoyable projects.
The 1/144 scale of the “Light Cannon” aligns with the standard for many HG releases, ensuring it will fit seamlessly into existing collections.
The “Light Cannon” is depicted as a robust and efficient mobile suit built from Luna Titanium alloy, which contributes to its exceptional battlefield performance.
It is equipped with a rifle and a beam saber, providing both ranged and melee combat options, and its main cannon is movable on a single axis for versatile artillery positioning.
The kit will also include a set of flat hands, further enhancing the posing possibilities for dynamic display.
This new kit marks yet another Gunpla kit based on a “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” mobile suit that has taken inspiration from, or redesigned, a mobile suit from the original 1979 anime such as the recent Gyan, Zaku and Gelgoog model kits.
The “HG 1/144 RGM-79 Light Cannon” is currently expected to be released on July 5th, 2025.
It will be available from hobby stores and other retailers for 2,200 yen (approx. $15.06 USD / £11.19 GBP).
