Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions is officially returning to cinemas for its 10th anniversary, giving fans another chance to watch Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba’s feature-length return on the big screen.

The 2016 movie will begin screening across 57 cinemas in Japan from November 20, with the anniversary revival also featuring exclusive artwork by series creator Kazuki Takahashi and new audio commentary from the Japanese voices of Yugi and Kaiba.

The revival forms part of Yu-Gi-Oh!’s wider 30th anniversary celebrations, marking three decades since Takahashi’s original manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 1996.

Yu-Gi-Oh! follows Yugi Muto after he completes the ancient Millennium Puzzle and awakens another personality within himself, beginning a story that eventually develops around increasingly elaborate games and the Duel Monsters card battles that became synonymous with the franchise.

The Dark Side of Dimensions occupies a particularly important place within that history as a direct continuation of the original manga rather than one of the franchise’s later anime spin-offs.

Kazuki Takahashi personally handled the movie’s original story, screenplay and character designs while also serving as executive producer, allowing the film to continue Yugi and Kaiba’s stories after the conclusion of the manga.

Set after Yugi’s final duel with Atem, the story sees him attempting to move forward with his everyday life as Kaiba remains determined to reconstruct the Millennium Puzzle and settle unfinished business with his greatest rival.

Their paths eventually collide with Aigami, a mysterious new character whose arrival is connected to a series of disappearances and another threat involving the ancient powers surrounding the Millennium Items.

The movie also brings back familiar characters including Joey Wheeler, Téa Gardner, Tristan Taylor, Bakura, Mokuba Kaiba, and Duke Devlin alongside its new cast.

Shunsuke Kazama returns as Yugi Muto, with Kenjiro Tsuda once again voicing Seto Kaiba, roles the pair have now been associated with for more than two decades.

The two actors will also reunite specifically for the revival through a newly prepared audio commentary that will become available from November 27.

Tickets for the anniversary screenings will also include an exclusive postcard featuring original concept artwork drawn by Kazuki Takahashi during the production of The Dark Side of Dimensions.

Two postcard designs have been created, one featuring Yugi and the other Kaiba, with moviegoers receiving one design at random for each screening attended while supplies last.

The revival arrives during an already busy 30th anniversary year for Yu-Gi-Oh!, which recently brought the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2026 to Tokyo alongside exclusive Ukiyo-e-inspired versions of Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and Polymerization created for the event.

Konami has also revisited the franchise’s early trading card history through its new ORIGINAL ARTWORK DUEL SET releases, which recreate classic Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG deck designs from the early 2000s with restored card layouts and packaging.

The Dark Side of Dimensions revival will lead directly into another major anniversary project centered on Kazuki Takahashi himself, with the “KAZUKI TAKAHASHI: YU-GI-OH! ART WORKS” exhibition opening at CREATIVE MUSEUM TOKYO on December 12.

Running until February 21, 2027, the exhibition will trace Takahashi’s work through five chapters using original manga artwork and illustrations from across Yu-Gi-Oh!’s history, making the cinema revival one of several projects celebrating both the series and its creator toward the end of 2026.
