Naruto to Return with New “Shadow Rising” Manga from Original Creator Masashi Kishimoto

Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto has officially announced a brand-new manga based on his iconic ninja franchise, delivering one final surprise during New York Comic Con 2026.
The new manga, titled “Shadow Rising,” was revealed at the conclusion of the “NARUTO: What’s Next?” presentation on October 10, with further information scheduled to be announced during the Jump Festa Super Stage 2027.

The announcement marks another major development for Naruto, which has continued expanding through new anime projects, merchandise and other releases since the conclusion of its original manga.
Kishimoto first began serializing Naruto in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999, introducing readers to Naruto Uzumaki and his journey from an outcast young ninja to one of the most powerful shinobi in the world.

The original manga concluded in November 2014 after 15 years of serialization, with its story subsequently continuing through the Boruto franchise.
Kishimoto has also occasionally returned to create new Naruto manga stories, including the 2023 one-shot centered on Minato Namikaze, which followed the character’s victory in the worldwide NARUTOP99 popularity poll.

The newly announced “Shadow Rising” represents another opportunity for Kishimoto to explore the world of Naruto through an original manga project, although its story, featured characters, and publication date have yet to be revealed.
The announcement concluded a major presentation at New York Comic Con, which was held on Naruto Uzumaki’s birthday and broadcast worldwide through the official Naruto/Boruto YouTube channel.

The panel opened with the world premiere of a trailer for a new limited Naruto anime, which was officially revealed as an unexpected crossover with the classic ninja series “Ninku”.

Created by Koji Kiriyama, Ninku originally debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1993 before receiving its own television anime adaptation from Studio Pierrot in 1995.

The series served as a major inspiration for Kishimoto when developing Naruto, with the crossover trailer featuring a statement from the creator declaring that without Ninku, there would be no Naruto.
Further information about the crossover, including its release date and episode count, is expected to be announced in the future.

The presentation also confirmed that Bandai’s upcoming “NARUTO CARD GAME” will officially launch worldwide in June 2027, accompanied by a new teaser trailer offering fans their best look yet at the game.

Three starter decks featuring Naruto (ST01), Sasuke (ST02) and Gaara (ST03) will be available at launch, alongside the first booster set, “Enter: NARUTO UZUMAKI!,” which will feature new illustrations based on the original Naruto anime and Naruto Shippuden.

Following those announcements, Kishimoto’s “Shadow Rising” manga provided the final reveal of the presentation, with fans now set to learn more about the mysterious new project at Jump Festa Super Stage 2027.
