Gundam Celebrates Amuro Ray and Char Aznable’s Birthdays With New Official Campaign
Image by Charlotte DavisGundam is celebrating the November birthdays of Amuro Ray and Char Aznable with a new official campaign bringing the franchise’s most famous rivals together once again.
The special birthday event is being held across participating THE GUNDAM BASE stores and GUNDAM SIDE-F, giving fans the chance to collect exclusive Amuro and Char bookmarks, while selected locations will also host special message boards for birthday wishes.
Amuro celebrates his birthday on November 4, while Char follows on November 17, making the month a natural opportunity to bring the two characters together for a joint celebration.
Their rivalry stretches from the original Mobile Suit Gundam through Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and eventually reaches its conclusion in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, where Amuro’s ν Gundam faces Char’s Sazabi during the battle surrounding Axis.
Bandai has revisited that rivalry repeatedly through recent merchandise, including a Gunpla box art fashion collection built around six of their most famous Mobile Suits spanning the original anime, Zeta Gundam, and Char’s Counterattack.
Image by Charlotte DavisFans spending at least ¥3,000 (approximately $19 / £14) in a single transaction at participating stores will receive one exclusive birthday bookmark featuring either Amuro or Char.
There are two designs in total, with one handed out at random per qualifying transaction while stocks last.
The campaign is also giving fans a more direct way to celebrate the characters at THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO and GUNDAM SIDE-F, where message boards have been installed for visitors to leave birthday wishes and other messages for Amuro and Char.
GUNDAM SIDE-F is particularly closely associated with their final battle, with the Fukuoka venue built around the life-size RX-93ff ν Gundam and regularly offering exclusive Char’s Counterattack merchandise.
That has included releases such as the RG 1/144 MSN-04FF Sazabi, which was originally created as a GUNDAM SIDE-F anniversary exclusive and reworks Char’s Sazabi with its enormous Double Horn Funnels.
Amuro has also recently received another major Char’s Counterattack release through STRICT-G, with Bandai revealing a premium leather flight jacket inspired by his appearance in the movie.
The Amuro Ray and Char Aznable birthday campaign officially began on November 3, 2026, and will continue through November 30 at participating THE GUNDAM BASE stores and GUNDAM SIDE-F.
The GUNDAM BASE SHIBUYA store due to open later this month, and the recently opened GUNDAM BASE ANNEX BHCPD II in Shizuoka are excluded from the bookmark giveaway, while the birthday message boards are limited to THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO and GUNDAM SIDE-F.
